It's called "Colourfix" for the obvious reason. This very permanent, lightfast coated paper withstands all manner of artistic experimentation (and even punishment).
These papers are used successfully in practically all media — pastels, charcoal, pencil, oils, acrylic, gouache, inks, silverpoint, and even watercolor. The natural toothy surface is ideal for pastels, pencil, or charcoal, as it will hold multiple overlays of color without the need to fix between layers.
The absence of fixative allows the velvet bloom and vibrant color of pastel to be preserved. (Apply a final light spray of fixative if desired.)
The unique, fine tooth surface is produced by screen printing Art Spectrum Colourfix Primer onto a heavy weight Hot Press watercolor paper. Available in 9" × 12" (229 mm × 305 mm) or 19½" × 27½" (495 mm × 686 mm) sheets. 140 lb (300 gsm).
Cool Tones Pack
Includes the following 10 cool tones in a 9" × 12" (229 mm × 305 mm) sheet pack: Blue Haze, Deep Black, Deep Ultra, Elephant, Fresh Gray, Leaf Green Dark, Natural, Rose Gray, Storm Blue, and White.
Includes all 20 colors in the Colourfix line in a 9" × 12" (229 mm × 305 mm) sheet pack.
Warm Tones Pack
Includes the following 10 warm tones in a 9" × 12" (229 mm × 305 mm) sheet pack: Aubergine, Australian Gray, Burgundy, Burnt Umber, Olive Green, Raw Sienna, Rich Beige, Sand, Soft Umber, and Terra Cotta.

I had never used sanded paper before. What a great product! It really grabs the pastel pigment. Nice dark colors.
from Idyllwild, CA
This coated paper is incredible for pastel painting compared to regular pastel paper. The 'tooth' is much deeper and firmer so you can build up many more layers the regular paper before it fills and refuses to take more color. Even though it is a rough surface it seems able to display detail really well. I just love doing whispy clouds on this. It's more expensive than regular pastel paper but well worth the extra cost.

Nice "grit" to this paper
from hooksett, nh
Grips the pastels nicely for great coverage, not too gritty - just right!

This sanded paper works well for student pastels. The grit helps hold layering and details. I wish I had a better spray fixative, however. Our results were stunning.

I use this paper with my watercolor class to give them the experience of painting on toned paper.
A Wonderful Paper!
from Burbank, CA
Art Spectrum Colorfix coated pastel paper is my favorite paper for oil pastel (and soft pastel but I am mainly doing oil pastel now). I can't say it is inexpensive, but I love the results. I would say it is the best in its category except I haven't tried other coated papers. It comes in an extensive selection of warm and cool colors so I can choose the ones that are best for my subjects. It gives a richness to my painting. One of these days I should branch out and try other papers but for now I am very happy with Colorfix.

Excellent Pastel Paper!

First time working with this paper in HS art class. Students are getting wonderful depth and color with soft pastels on this coated paper. Love that it is forgiving for first time students and able to take lots of reworking. Great hues available, too!
