Akua Intaglio soy-based permanent inks are a non-toxic, environmentally safe way to do printmaking.
Formatted for intaglio, they can also be applied with a brayer for relief, monotype, and collagraph printmaking techniques. Combine Akua Intaglio Ink with Solarplate for a completely waterbased intaglio process.
Akua ink has a rich, thick consistency with minimal dryer and cleans up easily with soap and water.
Print from plastic, wood, linoleum, or metal plates. You don’t need any special ventilation, toxic solvents, or fireproof containers.
8-Color Sampler Pack
Colors include Hansa Yellow, Yellow Ochre, Crimson Red, Red Oxide, Carbon Black, Titanium White, Phthalo Green, and Phthalo Blue. Jars are 59 ml (2 oz).
Metallic Gold and Silver Inks
Use Akua Intaglio Metallic Gold and Silver Inks when you want to add high shine or a subtle sheen. They’re ideal for monotype, intaglio, and relief printmaking. The metallic colors will appear different depending on the viewing angle. They can be used alone or mixed with other Akua Intaglio or Akua Kolors to create copper, bronze, and other new colors. A small amount added to the ink will increase the opacity without causing a shiny effect.

Akua Intaglio Ink ( Oxide Green) 59ml. / 8 oz.
from Rialto, Ca
Comments about Rostow & Jung Akua Intaglio Inks:
I used the intaglio oxide green from the akua ink on a drypoint plexiglas and it worked out fantastic, I would recommend to use reeves printmaking paper and wet it before printing. The color contrasts beautifully and looks fantastic. I love that it comes in a smaller container and is much easier to use because of it's movement and makes for easy clean up in comparison to oil based etching inks as well as the price being a lot more affordable for beginners or people who are just starting out.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

trying new inks
By la luz studio
from chama, new mexico
new to monotype and trying new inks, intaglio, seems to work well once i find the right consistency formula. some arrived nicely semi-fluid, while others were just this side of almost solid, could be shelf age.
Merchant response: From Speedball: Thank you for your recent purchase of Akua Intaglio inks. This line's unique formulation does allow for variation in viscosity across colors. There are two Akua modifiers that are available to allow artists to alter the inks' viscosities to suit their particular process. Akua Mag Mix can be used with Akua Intaglio to stiffen the ink, while Akua Blending Medium can be added to loosen the ink and/or make it brushable in consistency. If you need assistance altering the inks specific to your project, please contact Speedball's technical support team at email@example.com. From Blick: Thank you for your review. Please know that if you feel that the inks you've received are too solid to work with, we're happy to help you with that. Just call 1-800-723-2787, and our Customer Care Agents will take good care of you!
What have you done to Akua?
from Central Oregon
I've been using Akua Intaglio and Akua Color for years and it seems like you've changed the formula. The Akua Intaglio Ink I recently ordered was as thick as spackle. To make it usable I had to add about 15% Akua blending medium for a disappointingly transparent result. This product was a disaster!
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend
Merchant response: From Speedball: Thank you so much for your recent purchase of Akua Inks. Speedball is now proud to manufacture Akua, and has maintained the same formulation for the entire Akua Intaglio and Liquid Pigment lines. There are many environmental factors that can impact the viscosity of the Intaglio line specifically, and many colors have differing viscosities when compared to other's in the line. That said, Speedball would love the opportunity to discuss your particular experience in detail to identify any areas of potential improvement with the product and also to much improve your experience in printing. Please contact the manufacturer at firstname.lastname@example.org to discuss further.
A Good Choice fo Collagraphs
By Mr. Ed
from South Carolina
This is a solid choice for collagraphs, as well as drypoint prints. I learned the medium using oil based inks, as well did I guess and the transition to water was a paradigm shift but I have found a few I like. This came highly recommended by an old printmaker/educator friend at the Columbia College Art Department and he was right. It is a solid choice. So, get out of the mineral spirits business and give the Akua a shot.

To get a good black in monotypes.
from Chico, CA
I use Auka inks for printmaking--intaglio and monotypes especially. The color and viscosity of the inks is excellent. The fact that this ink is soy based and does not dry out when using means it lasts longer and ink is not wasted.
I love this Ink!
