Unmatched in their softness and consistency, Schmincke soft pastels were created using the finest artist's pigments and a minimum of binders. Pastel softness permits beautiful dense application, and high pigment concentration results in intense colors.
Color Swatches created using heavy to light application and were applied on 100 lb (163 gsm) drawing paper material.
Naphthol Reds vary widely in lightfastness. This Naphthol Red (PR146) has fair to poor permanence and always fades in tints. It is not suitable for outdoor use.
Naphthol Reds are not considered toxic. They may cause eye, skin, or respiratory irritation. Contact with dry pigment should be avoided.

Perylene Red is a moderately intense, semi-opaque, medium red pigment, appearing somewhere between a Cadmium Red and a Cadmium Deep Red hue. It has excellent brightness and tinting strength. Its partial transparency makes it useful as a glazing color.
Perylene Red has excellent lightfastness and permanence, but its tints may darken after extended exposure to sunlight. It is not considered suitable for exterior use.
Perylene Red has no significant acute toxicity. Its long term hazards are currently unknown.
Perylenes have been used as vat dyes since 1912, but they were not manufactured and sold as pigments until 1957.
organic, disazo condensation
A bright yellowish red, often referred to as scarlet. It has average tinting strength.
It has excellent resistance to solvents, acids, and alkali, and is heat stable up to 300°C. Disazo condensation compounds have very good lightfastness for organic pigments.
Pigment Red 242 is used to color plastics, paints, and printing inks.

Toluidine Red is a semi-opaque, yellowish red pigment with high tinting strength. .
Toluidine Red has very good lightfastness.
Toluidine Red is not regarded as toxic.
Toluidine Red or Toluidine Scarlet has been used in inks, textiles, artist materials, and plastics.
