Japanese Printmaking Paper

Japanese printmaking papers are handmade papers that employ centuries-old papermaking techniques. Generally made from high-quality, plant-based fibers, these strong, supple papers are ideal for lino and wood block printing, letterpress printing, sumi painting, calligraphy, chine colle, book binding, arts and crafts projects, card-making, pen-and-ink work, Japanese paper art, and other decorative purposes. Japanese printmaking paper can be made from bamboo, mulberry bark (kozo), hemp, gampi, kitakata, or other fibers, which are usually combined with wood pulp (alpha-cellulose) for added strength and stability.
