Mounting Systems

Laminate, dry mount, cold mount, and reinforce artwork and photographs with art and photo mounting supplies from Blick. Find products for dry mounting photos such as presses for mounting photos and more on fine art paper, metal, wood, and more. Mounting corners, strips, and sleeves provide an archival option for cold mounting of photos and other materials in photo albums, scrapbooks, and presentation books.

Mounting systems are best used for mounting materials where conservation is not a priority, such as for commercial artwork, posters, maps, or reproductions. Valuable or collectible original artwork should not be permanently mounted, as this will decrease the value of the artwork.

Dry Mounting Dry Mounting uses a heat activated adhesive to permanently affix a piece to a sturdy support, such as foamboard. Once a piece is dry mounted, it cannot be removed. Dry mounting should be used only for reproductions and commercial artwork, where conservation is not a priority.

Cold Mounting Cold Mounting uses a wet adhesive that is not water soluble and drys or cures at room temperature. This allows for mounting without an expensive heat press. However, the process is messier and more time consuming, and some artwork may be affected by the adhesive. The mounted piece is not available immediately. Do not allow the adhesive to contact the artwork itself.
