Protractors and Triangles

A protractor is an instrument used for measuring angles in degrees. Most protractors are made of plastic and have a half-circle shape, although there are also full-circle protractors. Used by engineers, architects, draftspersons, and in schools for geometry instruction, most protractors are divided into 180 equal parts.

Another essential drafting tool is the protractor triangle, which is used for drawing lines of various angles. Adjustable protractor triangles allow tracing of angles from 0° to 90°, with inner gradations that show the degrees of two different angles. Most triangles feature both inch and metric calibrations, an inking edge, and a center cutout. Some brands also include cutout templates for making circles.
