Wash Brushes

Available in a variety of shapes, square wash shape brushes can produce strokes of varying shapes and widths, and often have a short, “flat-footed” handle for scraping, burnishing, and separating watercolor paper from watercolor blocks. Watercolor wash brushes are useful for laying in large areas of paint or water, for wetting a painting surface, and for absorbing excess paint or water. Made from either natural or synthetic fibers, wash brushes are primarily used with watercolor paints. Access our Brush Charts for more information on types of paintbrushes, including brush shapes, fiber types, and measurements.
