Instructions

  1. On your palette, mix different colors together to create new color recipes. The specific colors used to create Sarah’s recipes include Yellow Ochre, Alizarin Crimson, Payne's Gray, Burnt Sienna, and Titanium White.

  2. To create washes, add water to animate the paint on your palette. Use your brush to bring that mixture over to your paper to create circles.

  3. While your wash circles are still wet, use your brush to introduce pops of color by dabbing it into wet paint.

  4. Use a clear wash technique to continue the painting conversation. While your washes are still wet, use your brush to paint clear washes that overlap the paint-saturated circles. Observe the way the paint moves and shines throughout your piece, changing in contrast and color as it dries.
