Jo Sonja is a well-respected decorative artist. With the exception of a year and a half of study with another decorative artist, she is self-taught, turning to painting much later in life, after school, marriage, children, and college.
Jo Sonja fuses legacies of heritage with an interest in painting and folk art. Following almost 30 years of very active teaching, research, and personal painting, along with numerous awards for achievement in decorative painting, Jo Sonja and her business currently reside in Eureka, a small town in northern California.
The scope of Jo Sonja's work has become international, appearing in cities, museums, and homes around the world, from famous homes to "Mom's" kitchen. But her work also encompasses teaching the art of decorative painting, and developing products and materials to help others to teach themselves and experiment on their own.
Jo Sonja has made a significant contribution to the recent revival of interest in the decorative arts, the scope of which is still rapidly expanding. She has developed an entire line of products for the decorative artist. Jo Sonja's decorative painting products reflect her emphasis on individual participation and personal contribution as the heart and soul of decorative folk art.
