Learn the fundamentals of oil painting working from real life and photos. Classes will cover basic principles, including stroke, color mixing, value, perspective, and composition. Students will explore various ways in which the medium is handled in landscape, portrait, still life, and abstract paintings.

Have you always wanted to learn how to draw but felt intimidated? Do you want to learn the basics of composition or color? Students will learn several techniques to approach drawing by observation as well as be introduced to a variety of drawing media. A one day workshop explaining how to draw a realistic face is included as part of the program.

• Christmas Crisis (12/04/2009): Join us for an evening of holiday creativity! We'll start with making hand-painted cards and envelopes, gift tags, and bags — all fast and easy. Then we'll move on to clever ornaments using paint, beautiful papers, collage, and embellishments. The class will finish with gift boxes galore for all your artistic creations. The boxes will be covered with metal tape and permanent inks for a cool embossed metal effect. Cookies and snacks will also be provided for a fun, relaxed way to start the holiday season!
• Transfer of Knowledge (12/11/2009): Explore the nifty ways to transfer an image with this class! We'll cover it all; from a basic Xerox transfer to working with a real Polaroid emulsion lift transfer. You'll create at least five types of transfers using different techniques. These completed transfers may be used on a variety of surfaces and can be layered to add even more depth and mystery in your collage work. You will also receive a folder to collage where you can store all your newly acquired knowledge. It's perfect for class notes too!
• I Can See Clearly Now (12/18/2009): Play with the latest idea in handmade books, the clear acrylic book! Experiment with these pre-cut covers and pages using alcohol inks, transparent and opaque stamp ink, tissue layers, etching, and more. The instructor will also have a new type of image transfer material available that works with ink jet printers. Students will use sheets of this material with collage images that have already been printed and prepped. These books allow for fabulous transparent collage effects and handle a variety of techniques. Feel free to bring along your transfers from the previous class to incorporate into your book!
