From Metra (regional commuter train)

  • Most Metra trains serve Union Station or North Western Station, commuter stations that are located west of the Chicago River between Canal and Clinton. From either of these stations, Blick Art Materials is a 15 minute walk through Chicago's financial district, and is easily accessible by CTA bus or taxi. Daytime traffic in the Chicago Loop is heavy.
  • North Western Station (aka Ogilvie Transportation Center) serves suburban destinations to the north and west. Trains stop north of Madison. From North Western Station, take the CTA 14, bus, which run east on Washington. Disembark at State Street and walk two blocks south to Monroe. These buses return to North Western Station on Madison, one block to the north of Monroe.
  • Union Station serves suburban destinations to the south and west, and trains stop south of Adams Street. From Union Station, take the CTA 1, X28, or 151 bus. Eastbound buses stop on Canal at the east side of the station, and run east along Jackson. Disembark at State Street and walk two blocks north to Monroe. • The Metra Rock Island line (to Chicago's southwestern suburbs and Joliet) serves LaSalle Street Station, located at LaSalle Street north of Congress Parkway. Walking and Cycling

  • Grant Park and Millenium Park, only two blocks east of Blick Art Materials, offer well maintained walking and cycling trails that connect the Loop area with the Museum Campus, Soldier's Field, McCormack Center, Navy Pier, and many other points north and south on the lakefront. In good weather, these parks are centers of activity.
  • Many buildings in the Chicago Loop and adjoining neighborhoods are connected by a network of underground pedestrian walkways, and sometimes aboveground skyways. This network, known as the Pedway, is often used by Chicago office workers in inclement weather. Although the block on which Blick Art Materials is located, bounded by State, Monroe, Madison, and Dearborn, is not on the Pedway, the blocks immediately to the north, east, and west contain buildings that are accessible. In bad weather, it is possible to walk most of the way to Blick from any destination in the north Loop using sheltered pedestrian walkways.
