Welcome to dickblick
Specially formulated for use with traditional Sumi-e ink wash painting techniques, these professional, artist-grade watercolors offer a high pigment concentration that works exceptionally well on absorbent rice papers.
Japanese painters testify to the unique effects that can be achieved with Yasutomo Sumi-e Watercolors. Use them on their own, or try combining them with European and American-made watercolors. They are also great for calligraphy, rubber stamping, card making, and paper crafts.
The pans, which measure 1¾" × 1", are contained in reusable plastic trays and can be removed and used individually.

Comments about Yasutomo Sumi-e Watercolor Sets:
This was for my wife and she loves them. They could be very easily be best in category and a fantastic deal but I am not qualified to make such a judgment. The brightness of the colors would be hard to beat.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I love these!
from Beltsville, MD
This is all I hoped it would be! I love the colors. The gold and gold-red are perfect for contrasting the black and red when painting coi. The silver is wonderful to use with the nature print paper. The pans are also bigger than I expected, so it's even a better deal than I thought.

My students feel so special when I break out these Watercolors for use on Rice Paper Lanterns. Very high quality materials.I simply wish there was more for the price as they're about twice the amount I Spend Per Palette regularly.

Absolutely The Best
By Mary Rage

I know the price seems steep for such a small set, but these are the best watercolors I've ever used. I am not partial to tube watercolors, and these paints deliver the opacity and vibrance of tube colors in a pan format. I am spoiled by these paints and won't use anything else. Buy them!

You can get some really vibrant and pretty opaque colors with these (though not as opaque as gouache). They last a while as well. Certainly some of my favorite watercolors. (And the little trays they come in is perfect for mixing colors once you've used all the paint up!)

I used these colors for Christmas Cards...the gold colors worked very easily and looked like goldleaf.
Love these colors.
