Comments about Yasutomo Adjustable Hake Brush:

The product description says that you can take these apart (so as to use them as smaller Hakes) and put them together again. So if you get a 5 1/2" one you can take it apart and use it as a 1", a 1 1/2" and a 3".

My problem is, how exactly do you pull them apart and then how exactly do you put them together again?

(I haven't used it yet so my rating is useless, btw.)

I've been using these brushes for a long time in my pottery studio. I apply metal washes to pottery with them and they work perfectly for this application. I sometimes also use them to paint my dip glazes over hard-to-dip locations on the pots. Because they're so soft and absorbent, they don't leave a lot of obvious marks and lines. I find them much easier than most brushes to use in painting glazes (that is, glazes not meant to be painted) when necessary.

I wouldn't recommend them for painting in watercolor, etc., though as they do shed a lot for quite a long time (they eventually stop). Too bad, because they're otherwise quite nice.

I bought this as a drawing dusting brush. I didn't want to carry around that huge dusting brush that looked like a hand broom. I got "Size 3-1/4" and it works like expected. It sheds a few hairs though this is not a problem for me since I use it on dry media like graphite pencil, charcoal, and eraser leftovers.

But I imagine the hair shedding would be a problem for those that use it for wet/oil media

Overall, I like it for what I use it for

These brushes were bought upon recommendation of using hake brushes for encaustic techniques.

These were the best value on hake brushes I fould. The brushes do "break" apart to become different sizes fairly easily. The brushes do fairly easily fit back to the original sized.

What I dislike about the brushes is how much the bristles shed. Even after a few uses with the encaustic medium, the brushes still shed. However, because these are the first hake brushes ever purchased by me, I can only say that the hake brush quality is "average."

If you are considering buying these and do not care about bristles shedding and want flexible sizing, these are decent brushes.
