Welcome to dickblick
In Russia, many great traditions in the fine arts date back to the time of the czars. In the 21st century, Yarka St. Petersburg Watercolor Pans are still manufactured using traditional materials and techniques, and with great care and craftsmanship. The color specialists who oversee Yarka production each have over 40 years of experience.
All the pigments, including cobalt and cadmium pigments, are Russian-made in a factory that has been known for its quality for over a century. Unlike other watercolors which are made with the dry, compressed extrusion process, St. Petersburg Watercolors are liquid poured — a process preserving the integrity of each pigment and resulting in semi-moist pans that respond instantly to a wet brush.

GOOD QUALITY WATERCOLORS
By The Old Gypsy

Comments about Yarka St. Petersburg Professional Watercolor Pans:
I have used Yarka pan watercolors for several years and find the quality to be very good. The colors are vibrant and blend well. They cover well and do not leave sediment. Overall, I am very pleased with these paints.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Dense, vibrant color.

I don't even recall why I chose Yarka over other brands, but they are the only paints I use. Super vibrant color, the paints blend and mix well. Use like water color or as opaque as you like.

My go-to darkest green!
from New York Metro
Although I usually favor tubes, this pan color is my very favorite dark green! I have purchased this color from Dick Blick several times because I use this color so much.
Above & beyond what I was expecting!
Highly pigmented; I'm able to to paint the palest hues to the deeper richer ones. So very glad I can get the individual pan replacements as these have become my favorite set of colors and the pans are already dwindling.

never used such saturated color before.. .... spent the first time I used it just attempting to control my applications... guess I really needed the wake up call... can't wait till my next group meeting to give the others in our painting group a chance to dabble with them... Bet I sell them on a set too.
Great Flexibility in Watercolors
from Fairbanks, AK
Yarka, ST Peterburg pans are one of the best and most versatile watercolor pigments on the market. I took a class from someone using these watercolors last week and watched him put a painting that had been completely dried, under running water to lift some of the paint for white space. It was impressive the way the it was done. Yarka holds to the paper and has vibrant colors. It's quite an impressive watercolor paint.

Quality has improved recently
Several years ago I left a rather negative review of this product to the effect they weren't up to standard. I purchased a set of 36 pans recently after I noticed that many of the colors (pigments) had changed from the old "Yarka" brand set. The newer "St. Petersburg White Nights" pans seem to have been re-formulated in some cases, particularly in some of the earth pigments that formerly were unusable due to resistance to wetting and low lightfastness. With the exception of one or two in the newer versions all contain pigments that are of very good to excellent lightfastness. In addition all of the pans that I have tries wet exceptionally well. The pigments are intense which takes some getting used to. These pans are poured as a liquid as opposed to others such as W&N, Lukas, etc. that are extruded as a paste and then cut to size. Therefore they are dimpled on top, an effect caused by the drying process. The addition of honey keeps them semi-moist which aids in the wetting process. They are an excellent value.
