This sharpener makes your point really sharp ! I mean It is sharp for days if not weeks. This sharpener made my life so much better, because my wife and i got into a divorce situation and I resorted to writing about pink pandas. This pencil sharpener keeps me crankin' out stories about unk the pink panda. I highley reccomend this pencil for all people who need sharpening.

I get a good point, the guides cover the size range of pencils I work with completely and I've only had one issue with it and that's it's a little hard to clean a broken point from a shattered lead out of it, but that is true for almost all hand crank style sharpeners.

I'd note to the person who said the pencils are sharpening with wood up the side, this is not a product of the sharpener not working, this problem would be from poorly made pencils where the lead is not centered or uniform in size in the casing. Really the only thing that would effect that on the sharpeners' end would be if you are using too big of a guide hole and holding the pencil at an angle.

Make sure you are using the right guide hole and a quality pencil.

I've had mine for two years and use it on about 20 pencils a week on average, and it's held up really well and never failed to give me a fantastic long sharp point.

Have sharpened countless 2B art pencils with it. Performs excellently. Produces a fine point and doesn't induce breakage. Those who had troubles with theirs might perhaps have been using the wrong pencil guide. Using one that's too large allows the pencil to move and can cause breakage/uneven sharpening. Or possibly the company just has erratic quality control and I happened to get a good one. But, for me at least, it's great and I'm going to be buying a second for my other office. I start all my work with pencils, so I'm pretty particular about a good point.

A real dependable workhorse compared to the more expensive
Sanford. Why? Because this design is much better. It will take the daily abuse and the handle will not disengage from the axle
or cutter assembly the way the Sanford models do. In our schools, all Sanford pencil sharpeners are being replaced by the
Exacto model. It has been a futile waste of time fixing them
and my conscience has had it with filling the landfill sites
with inferior products. Hope this helps!

This design goes back at least 50 years and was terrible when it first came out. We used this identical item all throughout elementary and high school, and they were terrible. For shame that Xacto, which should be state of the art, would bring out this badly designed, badly manufactured pencil sharpener. Retailing for far too much, it will quickly eat through many dollars worth of expensive art pencils with torn up and shattered pencil points with uneven cuts that are more wood than lead.

I am an art teacher and find this product to be a complete failure. It sharpens all the pencils at an angle and my students end up ruining their artwork because of it. Many of my young students find it impossible to get a point that does not have wood all the way up the side. This problem is not just occurring in my room but throughout our school and district.
