I attempted to use this utility knife to cut paper and thin matboard. The only good thing I like about this item is its visual appeal. Unfortunately, the PLASTIC knob that moves the blade in and out is recessed in a slot and is below the casing of the knife, making it just about impossible to move. Furthermore, the lock that holds the two halves of the casing closed is also PLASTIC, and very difficult to operate. The knife blade is now immovable, despite repeated attempts to troubleshoot by opening the casing and realigning the blade. Don't buy this utility knife.

Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

The blade is hard to open and close. Difficult to open the inside assembly to change blade. Fits nice in hand and is sturdy.
