Welcome to dickblick
A painting aid used by artists who want to avoid the shoulder, arm, and hand pain that can result from years of standing while painting at an easel.
Use a mahl stick when painting detail or to avoid smudging wet paint when painting in a large area. Lay it across your table or easel at an angle or rest it on the canvas edge or a dry spot of canvas, whatever position you choose, it can be a welcome armrest.
Made from solid oak with a soft faux leather cover. 40” (101.6 cm) long.

Fool buys cheap mahl stick from mail order dealer
By Dick Schaefer
from Grand Junction Colorado.
Comments about Wood Mahl Stick:
This Mahl stick is of questionable manufactured quality. Goods manufactured by a company other than Blick have been fine. I have purchased this cheap unfinished pine mahl stick and an unusable convertible easel from Blick and have regretted both. I have continued buying from Blick as there are only limited alternatives. I recommend patrons be very cautious when buying from internet sources. I have bought all my colored pencils, Pastels oil paints and brushes from Blick but am reluctant to purchase other goods from them. I had grown to trust them but I now am a questionable patron.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

I have to agree with the previous review. The maul stick is much thicker than the picture shows. It feels very clunky (it is not round but a rectangle in shape) and uncomfortable in my hand. The wood is rough in texture and the suede on the end is questionable. The texture is a cross between felt and thick paper? Very weird. Nothing a chamois couldn't fix but this maul stick is definitely going back.

disppointing and not as described
from Phoenix, Az
for the price i expect to get my item as described, but there is no leather topping this very large mahl stick. the stick itself is thicker than the photograph displays and it has a very crude rough cover on the ball NOT soft leather. Some kind of faux suede material, very thin and hard. I am debating as we speak to return it but I guess I can use it. hohum. Definitely not worth the price and very disappointing.
