Welcome to dickblick
For students, amateur painters, and professional artists using high volumes of color, Winton Oil Color is the ultimate high-quality yet economical oil paint.
Winton brings together the best of the Winsor & Newton paint-making tradition with modern technology. Rather than lessening the pigment content to create a more affordable paint, Winton Oils are formulated using moderately priced pigments that still possess good covering power and tinting strength — including genuine, excellent-quality cadmiums and cobalts. While Winton Oils can't match the superior pigment load of Winsor & Newton Professional Oils, they are still much stronger than the artist-quality lines of many other brands.
Every Winton Oil color is individually formulated to bring out the best natural characteristics of the pigment. These paints have a more uniform consistency than Winsor & Newton Professional Oils and are slightly stiffer, offering excellent retention of brush strokes and knife marks. The gloss level varies from color to color, but again they have a more uniform sheen across the range as compared to the Professional line.
All colors are either AA or A rated and are recommended as permanent for artists' use.
This set contains six 0.7 oz (21 ml) tubes, including one each of Cadmium Yellow Pale Hue, Permanent Alizarin Crimson, French Ultramarine, Viridian Hue, Yellow Ochre, and Burnt Umber.
Note - Permanent Alizarin Crimson may be temporarily substituted for Cadmium Red Deep Hue by the manufacturer.

Winton Soft Painting Whites
The whites in the Winton line offer a range of opacities and working characteristics. Titanium White is the whitest, most opaque white and also the most popular. Zinc White is the least opaque white and is ideal for tints and glazing. Soft Mixing White is a soft, non-sticky blend of Titanium White and Zinc White that retains brushstrokes and is resistant to yellowing.

Winton Paint Experiment on Loose Canvas
By Jesús Madera
from Solano County, California, USA
I used Winton oils on a group of loose canvas paintings, let the paintings dry for two months, rolled them up, and stored them for a year. Upon unrolling, the paint still looked good and had not cracked. There was one exception: a couple paintings I put a second coat on after the first had dried. On these paintings, the second coat blistered and flaked off after a year of being rolled up.

When Painting Is Important
By T,F. Rowe aka The Beet Doctor
from Cincinnati, Ohio
After years of working with alkyd enamels and acrylic enamels, I finally made the move to oil colors and Winsor & Newton Winton oils, is just what the doctor ordered. Oil paints of world class character, Great paints which I order in the 200 ml size, because I work on large surface canvas. Blick on line has quickly become my go-to source for supplies, because I do not own or drive an automobile.

Thin, weak and oily
Even among student grade paints, this is the worst I've ever tried. Raw sienna was barely tinted oil with a slick texture, and never dried. Dioxazine purple did not disperse evenly with thinner, rather it streaked, and it was also weak and oily. The only value I got from these was a basis for comparison: now I know what a really bad paint looks like compared to one that's at least okay. The other student grade paint I've used is Georgian which is definitely a better buy, better handling with more pigment, and feels more like the oil paints you'll use when you upgrade.
