Winton is a traditional range of oil colors made from moderately priced pigments, formulated for student and amateur artists or more accomplished painters who require large volumes of color within a moderate cost range.

The application of traditional skills and modern color chemistry techniques has resulted in a range of 49 carefully selected Winton Oil Colors, including genuine, excellent-quality Cadmiums and Cobalts.

Introductory Set — This set contains 6 colors of Winton Oils in 21 ml (.7 oz) tubes, including one each of Cadmium Yellow Pale Hue, Permanent Alizarin Crimson, French Ultramarine, Viridian Hue, Yellow Ochre, and Burnt Umber. The set is housed in a sturdy cardboard box.

Winsor & Newton has an excellent line of paints and other art materials. I have used their oil paints for 8 years and I swear by them. People are always admiring my brightly colored paintings and the quality of their paints is why I am able to create successful work.

I am sure there are other brands that are just as good, but the reason I stay with this product is because it is consistent and it is a high quality paint. You can buy student grade, or you can buy the studio grade. With flexibility in this, you can decide how much you want to spend on paint while still paying for the quality. I use their studio paints but their students/scholastic paints work very well. I highly recommend this product for you painting endeavors.

These oils mix well with more expensive oils. They are especially good as replacements for high priced yellow and red oils.

Not that bad

These paints aren't as bad as I thought. Some colors do "clump" up when mixing with some mediums, however, I have found that using Refined Linseed Oil with Winton Oils works best for most of what I do. Though the Paynes Gray has a particular smell and very, very thick, it mixes well with other Winton pigments and easily breaks down with the Linseed oil medium. Phalo Blue is a very powerful pigment as is the Cadmium Red Deep Hue. One of my new "favorites" is Ivory Black. The Zinc white works very well for glazing since it is semi-opaque, but use Titanium White for lightening the values of other colors.

All in all, I like this paint. It does what I need it to do. Can't complain too much on the prices.

Remember the Refined Linseed Oil.

Perfect for my oil painting class

These paints were required for my beginning oil painting class at college. They work great for a beginner level painting class and I would use them in the future with my painting as well. It was a great deal and I'll be buying again when I need to restock my paint supply.
