I have painted miniatures for over 38 years. The only brush I use for practically everything is the W&N Series 7 No.2. In my opinion, it is the only brush to use.

It is also the most expensive. In Australia a single brush costs a small fortune. I use more than two dozen in a year. So imagine my joy to discover Dick Blick and his fantastic deal. A discount of 59% makes it so much easier to continue satisfying my clients.

And delivery was quick and convenient.

Altogether service was great, the deal was great and I am satisfied beyond anything I could hope for.

One can not paint a watercolor with bad brushes.. not in my opinion..

I use watercolors / gouache a LOT, and find that I 'gift' myself these brushes throughout the year!! When I find a store that carries them, I snatch them up, walk around the store with them trying to convince myself to shell out the money to buy them. Because they are that good. More expensive than the synthetics of course, but man do they deliver.

The water absorbency is beyond my wildest expectations and makes correcting mistakes fast as well as gaining better results. It points (when wet) smaller than most pin needle heads (at least with my size 0's and 1's) so I can get veins in leaves, hairs on animals, and eyelashes / facial features exact. In 1 brush you get a great range of tiny detail at the tip, and broad strokes with the side / entire brush.

I do a lot of work with India ink / acrylic ink (FW inks) with my comic book illustration and can't think of any other brush I use more. They make covering your black placement painless, holding lots of ink for fast coverage-in fact I can use my number 1 and 2 for an entire page (even dry brush techniques) without hassle. I would NOT however, dip them in any kind of white-out or correcting material for a comic page or otherwise, as these are usually too harsh to use on a nice, natural brush. Get a cruddy throw away brush to do that, these Series 7's are way too nice to abuse!!!!

For clean up I have heard conflicting opinions; I used to use 'The Master's Brush Cleaner and Preserver', and was impressed at how it kept my brushes looking and appearing like new.......
.......However, a mentor of mine / the Illustration and Comic community had voiced that in his experience, that particular brush cleaner only destroyed his natural haired brushes faster-and that it was best to let them, 'die on their own'. For this reason, I do not clean my Series 7's, unless they are really really really bad, then I will do it with very little brush cleaner so it's just enough to get the ink off. Normally I will just rinse them in my water cup and dab off on a towel (and reshape).

As a beginning miniature painter, I initially tried to cut corners with cheaper brushes. I went through about four or five from the local art supply store, one of which hooked in less than an hour of use. W&N brushes are more expensive, but you get what you pay for. One of these brushes was about the same as I spent on all of the cheaper ones, and the difference in quality is measurable.
