Winsor & Newton's Sceptre Gold II brushes combine sable hair with a special blend of synthetic fibers to produce a brush that approaches the performance of pure sable, yet at a moderate price! Sceptre Gold II brushes are available in different styles (long and short handle) to accommodate both oil and watercolor painters.
Each Sceptre Gold II brush has a copper-colored handle and a seamless, gold-colored ferrule.
Designer Round, Series 202
Available only in select sizes, the Series 202 Designer Round is a narrow belly version of the Series 101 Round. It's a traditional format for a watercolor detail brush, but it can be used for detail work in any media.
Pointed Round, Series 101
The Series 101 Round is the original Round in the Sceptre Gold line, perfect for high detail work. It's the watercolorists version of the Sceptre Gold Round, with a short lacquered handle.
Rigger, Series 303
A "Rigger" is the name originally given to brushes that were used for painting the rigging on ships in seascape paintings. Series 303 is a short handle pointed round brush with long springy fiber.

My Go-To brush choice
from Temecula, CA
My Go-To brush choice because of their fluid capacity and control when painting edges and detailing ability with various watercolor brush work styles. I have size 101 and 102 series, a 2" wash, and 3 large rounds #8, #10, #12. Still need to get the series 303 scripts.According to how fine of detailing your doing. Be sure tamp the dripable excess watercolor from the tip and body to avoid problems in tiny areas.
Great Prices and selection

Good for fine lines.
My favorite brushes
from Lynnwood, WA
These are the best brushes for detail work in my opinion. I've tried loads of others but keep coming back to these.
I want to say how happy I am that this brush is available again, and that it has been my favorite for years, after years of searching for the perfect affordable small brush that kept its point. They stand up long enough with rough inks! The price is very good because I go through a lot of them and can't afford to wreck the more expensive all sable brushes.
I recommend these brushes
Holds lots of paint and makes a great line.
from Lake of the Ozarks, Missouri
This brush is perfect for the long lines in a painting whether rigging for a boat or the fine lines of a flower. The bristles hold water and pigment nicely and none of the bristles were damaged upon shippling.

Might be my new favorite oil brush.
Comments about Winsor & Newton Sceptre Gold Flat:
I paint with water miscible oil paint, the bristles of these brushes have the right spring, not too soft and not too stiff. They don't lose bristles and seem to last well.
Does not hold point
I bought a 16 sized brush.does not hold a point. Its disappointing for a brush in this price range to perform like this. The brush ferrule was dented when i recieved the brush. The hair does not hold together, hence when i try to draw a line with the tip, stray lines would appear.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend
