Welcome to dickblick
Since 1832, when Henry Newton and William Winsor introduced the first moist watercolors to the world, much of Winsor & Newton's reputation for supreme quality has stemmed from its Professional Watercolor range. More than 180 years later, the original Winsor & Newton moist watercolor continues to be formulated and manufactured according to the company's founding principles — to create an unparalleled watercolor range that offers professional artists the widest and most balanced choice of pigments with the greatest possible permanence.
Through strict adherence to these founding principles, Winsor & Newton Professional Watercolors offer brilliance, transparency, and purity of color unparalleled by any other brand. For the 21st century, these key qualities are achieved through a combination of choice of raw materials, custom-made machinery, and expert formulation by experienced chemists and artists.
Today, the Winsor & Newton Professional Watercolor range benefits from continued advancements in pigment technology and production methods, building on the company's already high standards to produce even brighter, more transparent, and more stable colors. Equally important, many of the formulations remain the same — proving that they cannot be bettered!

Always have the product I need !
Do yourself a favor and buy these Watercolors
I use these watercolors to do washes on my large mix media paintings. I love these watercolors; they're very vivid, incredibly light fast, and very easy to work with. The tubes are great when you need to mix large quantities of washes for bigger pieces. The price is very reasonable for the high grade pigments and are honestly MUCH less expensive on Blick in comparison to chain art stores.

Comments about Winsor & Newton Artists' Watercolor Sets:
There are some pigments from Winsor Newton that I really love and in other brands, they are just not quite the same. The Burnt Sienna is a favorite of mine, I use it so much that I bought a giant tube of it. Other Burnt Siennas are so drab compared to WN and in the large size, the price goes down to a reasonable amount. On the other hand, the smaller tubes are rather expensive but are a good way to get just a certain pigment. I first tried Cobalt Green on the suggestion of another reviewer and they were right....it is an incredible pigment and quite useful! If only the prices were a bit more reasonable I would be totally happy. The other downside of this brand is that when you squeeze it into a palette, it can get very dried out and is so hard to reconstitute. It is because WN uses a different formulation for the tubes than they do the pans. I think it is a bit odd they do this and it can be a real pain when the viridian or burnt umber turns into a rock in my palette. For soft luscious paints that are immediately usable, you cannot beat the M Graham brands, and the colors are wonderful. I just every so often need a pigment that they don't have or that I prefer in another brand.

Good Things Can Come In Small Packages
By Liz M

Having spent my childhood being handed crayons and newsprint for art supplies (and hating them even then) I am perfectly willing to spring for professional grade paper and paints so that I can experience quality. These paints aren't cheap but are supposed to be light-fast and more saturated with pigments. I can't really report yet on anything other than my sheer delight at seeing them lined up on my palette and the beauty of the colors spreading out on paper as I learn to mix and use them.
