Solvents are used to dilute oil color as well as to clean brushes and palettes after a painting session.
Winsor & Newton's top-quality Oil Painting Solvents are made especially for artists and are intended to be fully volatile, meaning that upon evaporation from the paint mixture, they leave no residual matter behind.
For the best possible results, it is important to invest in these artist-quality solvents. Lower-grade solvents purchased at a hardware store or home center, though lower in cost, are not refined to the degree required for a fine art context, and often result in a tacky painting surface and a paint film that never fully dries.
Artists' Picture Cleaner
Winsor & Newton Artist's Picture Cleaner is a liquid that dissolves linseed oil oxidation and cleans soiled oil paintings. It contains an emulsified mixture of Copaiba balsam, dipentene, and pine oil with ammonia. The liquid settles out in two layers. Thinning is not recommended. Follow the directions on the label.
Artists' White Spirit
This volatile, flammable diluting agent is suitable for thinning oil and alkyd colors, as well as for cleaning brushes. Slightly slower drying than turpentine, it has the added benefit of not deteriorating when stored.
All solvents vary in strength and in their capacity to "loosen up" the body of the color, but the solvent with the greatest power is Distilled Turpentine — the only solvent capable of easily dissolving Dammar resin. Distilled Turpentine makes a viscous mixture. It evaporates slowly, and is the most hazardous and strongest-smelling solvent commonly used by artists. Keep the bottle tightly closed and away from light to prevent oxidation. Do not use Distilled Turpentine if it has thickened.
Sansodor makes a viscous mixture that evaporates slowly and is the least hazardous solvent for artists to use. It costs approximately the same as turpentine, but has minimal odor and does not deteriorate when stored. Sansodor is well-suited for artists who prefer to avoid exposure to turpentine.

Good Solid Value Turp
from Staples, MN
Comments about Winsor & Newton Oil Painting Solvents:
This is a low odor pure turp. so if the smell of regular turps make you ill, you should try this line. Super clean, dries fast, good working qualities. You would be hard pressed to find a better turp on the market today with the same low odor and other qualities I listed.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Great bush cleaner. Really gets the paint out and does not have a strong odor. I enjoy using this product.
This product is superior to general purpose turpenoids for oil paints, due to it being Artist Grade.
I would buy this product again and again

Great solvent, you only have to use a little bit to achieve, let's say a field of color of 45 x 90 cms. It's very efficient.
