Winsor & Newton's synthetic mongoose fiber offers better durability than natural mongoose. This unique synthetic fiber is so much like mongoose, it even has the tapered point and surface texture of the natural hair. It is stiffer than sable, but softer than hog bristle, perfect for acrylic and oil painting.
Each brush is elegantly crafted with a gold ferrule, and a dark brown-stained lacquered handle. The bristles are handsomely variegated in shades of ivory, gold, and brown.
Apply varnishes, primers, and gessos. The Monarch Glazing Brush is made with the same synthetic mongoose fiber as other brushes in the Monarch series, a compromise between the stiffness of bristle and the softness of sable.
It has a shorter, flatter shape than the regular filbert, with rounded edges. Use it for fine lines and soft-edge broad strokes with greater control.

Comments about Winsor & Newton Monarch Mongoose Brushes:
I recently bought a #6 and a #10 Filbert. The #10 is all a good quality brush should be and would not hesitate recommending to anyone. The #6 however is a huge disappointment. The brush seems like they just chopped a longer brush down to this size. No taper or tips that I can tell. The worst part is I found the brushes in a local store and the 6 was the best of other choices. Once I used it the brush showed it's true nature. I am very happy with the 10 though.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Comments about Winsor & Newton Monarch Mongoose Filbert Series 5504 and 5505:
I have had to wait awhile for this backordered brush, but it is one of my favorites for getting into tight spaces without being "tight" about it! I like the spring of the bristles and the way they do not splay if cared for properly. Thumbs up!
I wouls strongly recommend the product

These are my favorite brushes for adding more detail and refinement to my oil paintings. I start my paintings with bristle brushes, but Monarch filberts are the next step. The paint simply flows smoothly and evenly from these brushes which provides a more finished look. They are very durable brushes, and unlike sable brushes....they last for years. What a great value!

These are great brushes, I love the monarch series! They have good spring to them, are soft and hold the paint.
My New Go To Brushes
Really enjoying these Monarch brushes. The best I've found for oil painting. Quick shipping here at Dick Blick, and they were packaged well, brushes in great condition. Will definitely be buying more in future.

I have used the Winsor Newton Monarch brushes for many years. They are my favorites, especially the filberts. They hold their shape, allow me to get really nice clean edges, and can be used for almost any technique. I recommend them to my students and they immediately can tell the difference from other brushes. Such good quality. They do start "bristling" after time but so do all brushes!
Monarch brushed. The best brushes I ve used yet

Oil painting is a breeze, the hold the paint well. Never she'd and are soft enough for not streak blending.

One of the best made

In realistic portrait painting ,It is most important to use the best available in brushes. The success of the likeness depends on it. I have always have had best results using this brand and type for delicate "glazing" with beautiful results.
