Cotman, from the makers of Winsor & Newton Artist Watercolors, offers a comparatively inexpensive selection of good quality watercolors. The Cotman line includes both traditional pigments and reliable synthetic colors that replace some of the more rare and expensive pigments used in the Artist Watercolors.

Cotman colors represent superb value and are compatible with acrylics and gouache to produce combinations of opacity and transparency. Winsor & Newton recommends the following colors for the Cotman basic palette:Lemon Yellow Hue, Cadmium Yellow Pale Hue, Cadmium Red Hue, Permanent Rose, Alizarin Crimson Hue, Ultramarine, Phthalo Blue (Intense Blue), Viridian Hue, Raw Umber, Yellow Ochre, Burnt Sienna, and Chinese White.

Warning — Some colors contain traditional artist pigments such as cadmium salts that are toxic, and in a water-soluble form or vehicle. Cautionary labels and warnings should be followed strictly. Do not moisten or point a brush with the mouth. Do not eat, drink, or smoke while painting. Avoid contact with eyes, mouth, and skin. After painting, wash hands, nails, and tools thoroughly.
