Winsor & Newton's Cotman Watercolor Pads contain 12 sheets of fine quality watercolor paper, spiral bound on the short side.
The 140 lb (300 gsm), Cold Press paper is sturdy and non-buckling. Cotman paper is acid-free, with a natural whiteness that will not yellow.

Met my needs & expectations
Winsor Newton Cotman watercolor pads are great when you're learning. These pads are definitely student-grade; however, they're absorbent - plus having it available in a spiral pad is super convenient. The only thing I really don't like about it is the texture, which is hard to describe. It's like there's little shallow "mini pits" in the surface that don't really show up until you need a wash of dark color. However, this was easy for me to ignore since I was learning and I knew I was getting what I paid for. Also, I must disagree with Blick's product description: "...sturdy and non-buckling." I'll agree that it's sturdy, but not with the "non-buckling" claim. All papers buckle when wet unless they've been stretched. All in all, a great practice pad and well worth it.

Very good watercolour paper
Very good watercolor paper

I love this paper. I carry the little 5 x 8 pads in my daypack for painting watercolors while on hikes -- very convenient. The paper is so sturdy I paint on both sides of each sheet for a total of 24 per book. I also enjoy occasionally copying my watercolor sketches onto larger formats so I ordered a 12 x 16 and a 9 x 12 as well. The paper is excellent. After you do your pencil drawing, be sure to lightly sponge off the "sizing" and let it dry before applying paint. The absorption, color richness, and texture are simply the best. A delight to hold and use.
Don't try and save money on water color

I thought I would try a less expencive paper for watercolor. I read the reviews and they were all good. I found this paper to be too absorbant. The washes just soaked into the paper. This is not what I like in a paper.

Quality in a convenient package

I travel with watercolors. The 5x8 spiral pad fits my hand or jacket pocket so I sketch on it with a graphite stick. The 140lb paper is good for painting in the field or in the hotel at end of the day. This eliminates the sketchbook step and brings the excitement of plein air to all my work. The price allowed me to purchase several pads and I'm happy.
great portable paper.

This is great because it fits in the Winsor and Newton watercolor fanny pack -in fact the same paper it came with. the 140# holds water well and gives very good results. Maybe your practice piece will become real art ssince it is very good paper. I have used it and there is no waving or buckling of the work. Good stuff.

Great Paper for Experimentation
By Studio Wabi
I've used this for watercolor, pen and pencil so far. For some reason I've really been enjoying the 7" x 10" size. The surface seems excellent as far as holding the water lightly -- easy to push the watercolor around, but doesn't buckle, overabsorb, or run off, as I've experienced with other student grade papers. Anyway, this feels to me like it's in a class by itself. Really great size for carrying around. Also good on both sides, one medium (like CP), the "back side' with slightly less texture. It seems like this paper can really take on the flavor or intention of whatever you're doing, has less of a motivation of its own than some of the high end papers.Well, I personally love this paper. Worth trying, especially if you're into experimentation. I don't remember the price comparison, but remember it seemed be a good value.

Great paper for the non-professional. Works well, holds color.
Great for teaching, traveling
By Karen Nastuk
The spiral is great for teaching classes--I can use backsides to demo ideas, clarify questions, and flip back to my main demonstration watercolor. When I travel, I fit several small sketches or a full painting on page; one pad has potential for 15 paintings! I just ordered 10 in various sizes because the spirals aren't always available in stores. The largest size, though, tends to curl so I masking tape the free corners to the sheets behind it and that solves my problem. (I like D'arches 140 CP sheets for extended paintings--they're slightly more absorbent; also my style gets a little tight using the smaller pad sizes.)
