WN Watercolor Brushes

I have found Winsor Newton watercolor brushes, both the long pointed and Series 7 varieties, to be the best. Their capability of holding a large amount of paint while still having a razor point, is important to me.
Excellent affordable sables
Comments about Winsor & Newton Artists' Rigger Watercolor Brushes:
I bought some of these watercolor sable brushes as rounds years ago: they eventually wore out and I bought more expensive Kolinsky sable brushes that split very fast. Too fast. I returned to these in part because I still use the old ones for dry brush- so they are useful for a very long time- and because they are terrific brushes that surpass some "better" ones. They work well for me and are now my favorite brush at a price I can afford.

Quality brushes are a delight
By Tilda Paintsalot

I decided to invest in sable brushes for watercolor. The Windsor Newton brushes are good quality with a mid-range price. At half price, the #10 was approximately $52.00, for example. I bought 2 more in different sizes and really don't need all those cheaper brushes I had acquired. I would buy more as needed .
I love these brushes!!!
Comments about Winsor & Newton Artists' Pointed Round Watercolor Brushes:
So wonderful for detail work as well as holding lots of water

These brushes looked exactly right...until I tried to paint with them. They do not hold paint or water. Also, they do not hold a point. Sadly, I am returning them.Very happy that I can return them and not just throw the money away. So thanks to Dick Blick's for that but shame on Winsor and Newton for selling inferior quality brushes! They are not suitable for watercolor painting of washes or details. Maybe I could mix paint with them!?
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

You Get What You Pay For

No question about it, these are pricey brushes, but the quality matches the price. Just excellent. The contoured handle feels great in the hand. The brush performs beautifully. It holds a lot of water and paint, rinses thoroughly, and dries to a perfect point. If this brush was a car it would be a Mercedes and unfortunately you can't buy a Mercedes for a Ford price.

Best watercolor brushes out there.
from Portland, OR
These brushes are well crafted, snapping into shape stroke after stroke. The handles are the perfect length and feel good in the hand. The various sizes are well proportioned length to width. They hold water better than any other brush I have used in over 40 years of painting.

I bought this brush because I was wanting to sign my work. I do mixed media and on the canvas on the back I make sure I sign it. This brush is perfect for that.

I was very disappointed with these brushes. For what supposedly are kolinsky sable and the high price I expected long lasting high quality. These brushes, however, seem soft and mushy and don't hold a point. I struggled with them for several sessions over a few weeks and they got worse. I then decided to purchase truly high-end brushes and return these. What a difference! I am now able to paint properly.
Merchant response: We're sorry to hear that these brushes didn't meet your needs, and of course we were happy to work with you on an exchange. If there's anything else we can do to assist you, just let us know!
