I am very very new to watercolor painting. I don't have a big budget. I nervously purchased these because I wanted something to paint with other than the horrid freebie brush (it sheds!) that came with my set of half-pan paints. They weren't too expensive, so I figured that if I didn't like them, I wouldn't be out by too much money.

They were a good choice. The different shapes and sizes give me room to play and experiment, they seem to lay paint down very nicely, and they cooperate even though I am not at all skilled at this. All in all I'd have to say they are a great learning set, and so inexpensive compared to some of the other brushes out there.

As I paint more I can see that I will need a couple of bigger brushes for laying washes, but still, I think this is an ideal starter set.

I am a great fan of Cotman watercolor brushes, but for the smaller sizes, you can't beat the pointing of a good sable. This brush pack is an economical way to experience the benefits of sable.

Old brush set will have a home in a drawer and these in my set, wat a great investment. Lots more control.

I've never done much watercolor before and I think it's because I'd been frustrated with brushes I tried in the past. These are a pleasure to work with from the shape and texture of the handles to the way the hairs hold and distribute both paint and water. They flow well and are very comfortable to work with. I'm doing more watercolor and really beginning to enjoy the medium thanks to these brushes.

This collection of brushes is the best I've found for plein air watercolor work - and I love the detail these brushes provide.

Wide range of sizes and shapes, very soft but firm fibers, glide like a charm on paper. You really have to try them on watercolour paper otherwise you'll be wasting the brushes, they do work well on almost any surfaces though. Wish they had included 2 more brushes of bigger sizes, then I'd have given them 5 stars. Another thing to point out regarding this purchase is the packing. My package had to travel a great deal of kilometers and it arrived in perfect condition. Everything came very well protected. I definitely recommend Blick Art to world wide customers.

As a beginning watercolorist, everyone said to get the best, so I got a few sable brushes and they work wonderfully. Then I bought a Winsor & Newton pan set that came with a Cotman brush. It quickly became my favorite brush to use, and so I did some research. Seems like a lot of people didn't care for them, maybe because they are synthetic, not sure. I so loved my Cotman brush that I took the plunge and bought the set of 7 (yes, there are 7 brushes in the set, not 6 as the description on the Blick website states....you do get a #6 round), and I am falling in love with them all. They are so soft, hold water, have great points on them, and are just a joy to use. Maybe when I'm not a beginner anymore, I'll understand why other people don't value them as much...or maybe the love affair will continue. Since I haven't used them too long, I don't know if the points will bend over or lose their quality over time. All I know is they are Heaven for me right now. :)
