Welcome to dickblick
These hand-dressed brushes, the newest brush introduction from Winsor & Newton, feature Chungking hog bristles and a naturally interlocked head.
Contoured birch handles are sculpted to offer a comfortable, balanced grip at the tail as well as below the ferrule. They are perfect for "close-in" work as well as easel painting. Brushes have matte-finish handles and ferrules to eliminate glare when plein air painting.
Winsor & Newton's extensive selection suits a broad variety of needs and includes popular head shapes. They're a perfect match for Winsor & Newton Artists' Oil Colors.

Comments about Winsor & Newton Artists' Oil Bright:
I have been looking for a good brush for a while. I have tries several brands offered here. The WN line is good, but the bristles still loose their shape too soon. I am very careful with cleaning etc, but am still on the search for a favorite line, especially for small size brights.

Great brushes - Great price!
from Boston, MA
These are the brushes used and recommended by artist Stapleton Kearns....I tried them and love them. Bought some from a local art supply store and paid twice what Blick charges.

The Winsor Newton tradition of accessible quality is evident here with brushes that are durable and well constructed. Ferrules are tight, bristles are well-proportioned and handles (so far) seem to be indestructible. These brushes really get put to the task in my oil painting, being scrubbed vigorously across the canvas as well as being expected to provide a delicate line or highlight.Still, I haven't quite come to grips (no pun intended) with the handle. I prefer the traditional tapered shaft, but Winsor&Newton's marketers apparently thought this would be an improvement. It seems slightly awkward to me, but it doesn't deter me from using the heck out of these brushes. I have a large number of them in a variety of shapes and sizes.Of course, I would highly recommend the W&N 'Artist's Oil Brush' to any artist of any skill level. As mine wear, I will certainly be replacing them.
Fabulously light and well balanced!

I love the balance and light weight of these brushes. I have all of them, and none of them have lost hairs. FYI, for those that are having problems with fraying, try cleaning your brushes with Murphy's Oil Soap and/or Masters, and then wrapping the brush tightly in 1 square of toilet paper, and let them dry. It will keep all of the hairs fitting together like new.
My Favorite brush to use.

It is really nice to have such a well made brush apart of my first paint brush set, to aid in my learning of oil paint.
Thanks Winsor & Newton!
These brushes offer several advantages. The interlocked Chungking hog bristles are relatively stiff, so they can handle thick oil paint—but they are gentle enough to blend paint. Iv'e cleaned them about five times using Gamsol followed by soap and water. The bristles retained their shape well. The handles are contoured which makes them very natural to hold at a distance from the work. For me, this results in more painterly marks. Here's an added bonus: with a little effort, it's possible to remove the bar code labels (and the adhesive) from the handles without destroying the handle finish!
