Artists' Canvas from Winsor & Newton is a range of back-stapled, stretched canvas that is manufactured to the highest quality standards. Made with heavyweight 8 oz natural cotton duck, these canvases feature a medium grain surface. They are ideal for all techniques, including heavier applications of color, and can be used with oil, water-mixable oil, acrylic, and alkyd paints.

Artists' Canvas is triple-coated with acid-free sizing and two coats of highly pigmented acrylic primer specially developed by Winsor & Newton. Balanced absorbency and tooth prevents sinking of oil colors and improves adhesion.

These canvases feature frame construction with kiln-dried, ¾" stretcher bars. Tailored corners and excellent tension are achieved by hand stretching each canvas. In addition, ample canvas on the back allows for restretching. 13/16" (21 mm) deep, staple-free edges can be painted to display finished paintings with or without a frame.

knots in the stretcher strips

I've purchased a few of these in the past and found the stretcher strips to be of poor quality. The two that I have now are ridiculously warped where the knots appear in the wood. none of my other pre-stretched canvases have warped. I attribute this to the fact that no other manufacturer that I have dealt with had this level of knots in their wood.

Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Rough texture

I assumed this would be a smooth texture with the word Profile in the description. I have a really hard time painting on a rough texture; on the other hand if you like a rough texture this is a very well made canvas with a nice tight surface.

I got these for my bf who is really getting into painting and he loved them. They work really well with acrylic paints and I would tell others they're great to use as well!

This was the first canvas I had ever purchased. I was very pleased with my choice. It is of really good quality for the price. Sturdy and took the paint very well. I will surely buy again.

I just ordered six W&N canvas and was somewhat dismayed that the country of origin is China. Nowhere on the Blick site does it say this is made in China. I would rather buy US made canvas. Bothersome!
