Water mixable oils a great product
from Toledo, Ohio
Comments about Winsor & Newton Artisan Water Mixable Oil Colors:
This product by Winsor Newton has almost replaced all of my oil painting. It handles like oil but dries fasterUse the same methods such as thick over thin. My method is to start with charcoal drawing and follow with thinner paint to block in areas followed by laylng colors in thicker.also use painting medium more in the early stages. Although the paint mixes with water only use it for cleaning brushes etc.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

WaterMixable Oil Paint
from Portland, Oregon
In the last year, I have exhibited my paintings at a number of venues and one of the most striking comments is the quality and texture of the paint. More then anything the fact that it is a water based product providing ease of clean up, a full palette of vivid hues, and combined with the array of mediums—all of those asking are surprisingly interested in this product.

Winsor&Newton Artisan Water Mixable Oil Colors

I switched to these water mixable oils after developing an allergy to the chemicals in regular oils. I have been very happy with the results I get and would recommend them to anyone! They are creamy, smooth, and easily mixed. They also retain their color wet or dry so going "back in" is not a problem!

It's easier to clean since is water soluble and is non toxic. Great paint!

About a year ago I retired and was moving from the NYC area to the Caribbean I didn't want to use harsh chemicals any longer when painting with oils and a while back I had heard about this product. I gave it shot and bought a started kit and began to use it.. A year later now I am enjoying it very much and have lots of fun with it in my new life. Not feeling guilty I will destroy the eco system.Just mix and clean with water. Is it exactly like original oils no.. but its almost there. has a great fluidity when painting. I have been painting with oils for about 40 years so it took me months to get the hang of it.. and its fine I like it. It dries quicker but not like acrylic. I noticed that some colors tend to be a bit thicker than others maybe its just me. But I have been able to master it and sold about 5 pieces of art already since I started working with them full time in May 2015.

Great, but with concerns
from dickinson, tx
WN has long been a high quality reliable product. O purchased several large tubes of the water miscible WN paints along with another brand several months ago. Just started working with these. Most of the WN tubes are nearly dry and I have to dig the paint out of tubes or cut the tube open. This is not the case for the other brand. I am highly surprised as I have tubes of regular oils that are over ten. (10) yrs old and still very useable and not dry. I suspect that water escapes from the tubes over time and that WN makes its paint with much less medium than some other brands. High concentration is good, but shelf life may be shortened. Getting fresh paint only enough that will be used right away might be necessary with certain brands? I like thick paint but it needs to be wet enough to be workable.

Nice consistency and mixes well with Holbein Duo Aqua.
By D.G. Deutsch
from New York
Artisan has a consistent texture, applies smoothly and is a good value. Pigment is rich. I prefer the more expensive Holbein Duo Aqua paints and mediums, as you can mix them with acrylics, as well as with regular oils. By mixing Artisan with the Duo Aqua mediums I can achieve the same result. I use the Artisan paints as a secondary paint and mix it with the Holbein. I've shown in galleries and people never question the quality of the oil paint. It is vibrant and easy to use and clean up. I always thin it with mediums rather than with water to create thinner paint or to get a glaze effect.

I teach adult oil painting using watermixable oils. I appreciate ordering when I need certain colors...and Grumbacher Copal Medium oil. I am totally dependent on these supplies for success.

Winsor & Newton Water Mixable Oils contain the same ingredients and perform just like conventional oil colors except that you can use water to clean them up. They are a great choice for artists who have a sensitivty to solvents or who just want the ease of clean-up in the studio or out in the field.
