I buy quality oil painting brushes and keep them clean so they last a long time. ArtGel is not a medium; it's a brush cleaner. Of all products I've used for over 50 years, ArtGel is the best.
Here's the way I use it: After a painting session, I wipe the brushes, rinse them in odorless Mineral Spirits to remove the bulk of the paint. I wipe them off with a rag, and then with some ArtGel in the palm of my hand, I work the bristles back and forth for a few strokes. Then wiping off each brush, I wash out the brushes with pink soap and rinse with water. I then shape the brushes,and lay them flat until dried. They stay new like for a very long time.
About pink soap. I've saved some foaming soap dispensers used for handwashing. I refill the dispenser with half water and half pink soap. It makes a nice foam to work the final stage of cleaning.
