Welcome to dickblick
This is an enhanced version of the popular Wilton Art Appreciation Series 100 program, specifically developed for very young students. It introduces elements of art and then applies visual concepts in journeys through great works of art.
Narration is simple, direct, and stimulating, while graphic illustration and animation make it enjoyable. It is designed to solicit student response and participation. It's also brilliantly photographed and easy to follow. An informative teacher's guide includes suggested activities and a vocabulary list.
The videos were created in still-frame format on VHS. Each video also contains interesting short stories about the artists and photographic images from around the world, designed to connect with the lessons. Videos run 28 minutes, and each one contains 2 lessons.

Started off well...then downhill.

Comments about Wilton Art Appreciation Series 100 CDs or Videos:
Started off okay. I bought the Elements of Art DVD. Covered Line, Shape, Form and Texture. VERY basic...wouldn't use for over 2nd grade level. Then the video started covering the Art Principles...Pattern, Balance...and didn't even finish the Elements. VERY disappointing and not really usable. The worse part is that the transitions are not smooth. There is background classical music playing and it keeps starting, then stopping at each short transition. I am disappointed in the DVD and glad I only purchased one other instead of the whole set. Concerned to now watch the Art Adventure DVD also by Wilson.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Outdated and poorly produced

Afraid these would've been interesting in the late 1980s, but are virtually worthless today. If you're looking for super simplified, basic-basic introduction material for students to manipulate on their own at the 2nd grade level, these are what you're looking for. They are slow to transition, you can't zoom in on the visuals, and if you could, they are obviously poor pixelation quality, even in their small, unadjustable format. Often times, glib questions are asked with no apparent educational objective... I'm embarrassed I asked my school librarian to buy them.
