Williamsburg grinds its main line of professional-quality oil colors in linseed oil, knowing this produces the strongest, most flexible, and fastest drying paint film. At the same time, the paint maker understands this comes with a tradeoff, as linseed oil has a tendency to yellow over time.
Williamsburg Handmade Safflower Oil Colors have now been added to provide artists with a longer lasting brilliance. This series of 13 white and transparent colors are milled in fine safflower oil for a vibrance and clarity that endures over time — ideal for passages of white and for glazing the top layers of a painting.
Paints milled in safflower oil take longer to dry and produce weaker films. Therefore they are not recommended for underpainting or foundation layers.
