Welcome to dickblick
Dedicated to handmade integrity, Williamsburg Handmade Oils are crafted by skilled American artisans using top-quality pigments from around the world. Each of the more than 140 colors in the line possesses a unique consistency and texture — some are slightly gritty, while others are extremely smooth. This is what makes Williamsburg Handmade Oils so unique and prized by the painters who choose them.
Colors are made in small batches no larger than five gallons at a time to ensure the highest level of control. Pigments are carefully ground to enhance the beauty and luminosity specific to each, and then combined with pure, premium, alkali-refined and pH-balanced linseed oil. Every ingredient is hand-measured, and every batch is scrutinized for quality.
Most Williamsburg Oils are considered to have excellent lightfastness (LF I), with the exception of Alizarin Crimson and Van Dyke Brown, which have very poor lightfastness (LFIII).
Special Edition Colors
Williamsburg offers four Special Edition iron oxide colors that utilize the same pigments as standard Williamsburg colors, but are milled to a finer consistency to make them suitable for glazing. Transparent Yellow Iron Oxide is based on Stil De Grain, with a dark yellow-brown masstone that gives way to amber and light ochre when glazing. Transparent Orange Iron Oxide is based on Italian Pink, and produces a very deep red-orange masstone that results in rich orange-red glazes. Transparent Brown Iron Oxide has its origins in Dutch Brown, and results in translucent brown glazes reminiscent of coffee or tanned leather. Transparent Red Oxide is a finer version of Brown Pink, and results in red tones reminiscent of stained cherry wood when glazing.

Williamsburg always excellent
Williamsburg makes *amazing* paint. It's on the mildly stiffer end, but very workable. The tactile experience is absolutely top-notch. Their supply of natural earth paints is the best in the market, as far as I can tell, having a wide and subtle range of the umbers and ochres from across the world. Interestingly, Williamsburg also makes varying coarsenesses of paint, which add delightful and hard to reproduce effects. Too, they make a point of contributing to the online painting community, providing detailed and scientific information about the craft of paintmaking.I heartily recommend Williamsburg paint, and look forward to buying more from them.

Permanent Yellow Light Comparison
from Los Angeles, CA
Similar in quality to Rembrandt brand's permanent Yellow Light and also Old Holland's Scheveningen Yellow Light. Similar if not the same yellow between those three, and they mix with other colors the same too.
Great paints and locally produced.

I was very pleased with the Williamsburg paints. They seem to be expertly made and the colors are great and they handle wonderfully. It's always a good sign when a strip of the paint is painted on the tube showing the actual color. I will buy again. and happy they are made locally
Veronese Green, Courbet Green , Francon Red
Great company & great color
from Oxford, Mississippi
Green gold is a key color in my palette. It's great for mixing a range natural greens and neutrals in the landscape. Warm. Intense. Transparent. I couldn't have made my most recent body of work without it. Thanks to Williamsburg for consistently excellent products. Pricey.
Never have had to worry about too much oil. The paint mixes well and application is great. I have not experienced "too much gloss" that other paints have had. I like that the paint is manufactured in the USA. For me the paint is best in category. I have tried a few tubes of Old Holland. I have not noticed a difference in quality to justify the additional cost. Although I will continue to try a colour that may not be offered by Williamsburg.
Good choice of colors
