Welcome to dickblick
Dedicated to handmade integrity, Williamsburg Handmade Oils are crafted by skilled American artisans using top-quality pigments from around the world. Each of the more than 140 colors in the line possesses a unique consistency and texture — some are slightly gritty, while others are extremely smooth. This is what makes Williamsburg Handmade Oils so unique and prized by the painters who choose them.
Colors are made in small batches no larger than five gallons at a time to ensure the highest level of control. Pigments are carefully ground to enhance the beauty and luminosity specific to each, and then combined with pure, premium, alkali-refined and pH-balanced linseed oil. Every ingredient is hand-measured, and every batch is scrutinized for quality.
Most Williamsburg Oils are considered to have excellent lightfastness (LF I), with the exception of Alizarin Crimson and Van Dyke Brown, which have very poor lightfastness (LFIII).
Special Edition Colors
Williamsburg offers four Special Edition iron oxide colors that utilize the same pigments as standard Williamsburg colors, but are milled to a finer consistency to make them suitable for glazing. Transparent Yellow Iron Oxide is based on Stil De Grain, with a dark yellow-brown masstone that gives way to amber and light ochre when glazing. Transparent Orange Iron Oxide is based on Italian Pink, and produces a very deep red-orange masstone that results in rich orange-red glazes. Transparent Brown Iron Oxide has its origins in Dutch Brown, and results in translucent brown glazes reminiscent of coffee or tanned leather. Transparent Red Oxide is a finer version of Brown Pink, and results in red tones reminiscent of stained cherry wood when glazing.

I HAVE A WILLIAMSBURG OIL PAINTS COLOR CRAVING
By One Great Artist
from Youngsville, NC
Comments about Williamsburg Handmade Oil Paints:
In my oil paintings and in working with cold wax, this oil paint exceeds all my expectations. Buttery feel to the application of the paint makes it a joy to work with. I have no negative comments. I would like to see Williamsburg Paint Company give a special pricing sale once and a while so we could afford to purchase more colors.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I am a landscape painter and really love the way that great oil paints allow me to catch the beauty of what I am painting. Williamsburg colors were introduced to me via an online class that I was taking. Since starting to use these colors, I have expanded to 42 assorted color tubes of Williamsburg Paints. It has a buttery feel in its application to canvas or panel. When mixing colors, it is easy to recapture the tint or shade because each color is manufactured with the same precise formula. It is not uncommon for these colors to stay soft for 3 plus days when I have left them uncovered [which I try not to do]. Quality paint which is expensive to buy but not a waste of money. I will continue to slowly accumulate a bevy of these beauties as my pocket book allows. I do wish that they would give us a few deals though, as once and a while it would help us to have more money to spend on their colors.

Since my previous vendor has stopped producing all of the paints it used to in the quantity I need, I have had to look elsewhere. This is equal to or better.

Comments about Williamsburg Oil Sets:
I like having several paint color choices in one complete set and these are beautiful! Nice consistency, with smooth blend ability. Very rich color for landscapes.
from San Diego
The paint quality is the best from all different brands that I tried (many). The pigment is very strong, so I don't need as much paint, even though the paint is pricey. The choice of colors is out of this world.I can describe the Williamsburg in on word- addictive. I would like eventually to switch mostly to this brand- right now I only could afford a few tubes in different colors.
I love williamsburg's earthy french and italian colors.
from Sebastian Florida
I recently used italian pink in a painting I did of ancient egyptian scene. I glazed the background with it and it gave the painting a mysterious feeling antique feeling.
In love with this product

I love the consistency and quality of this paint. I use the titanium white as my base white.
Winning Color with Williamsburg Paints

I have only recently started painting with Williamburg paints after an artist friend suggested I try them. Not only are the colors rich and true but the luminosity and beauty of the paint enriches my painting practice.
