To support its extensive line of Handmade Oil Colors, Williamsburg offers a complementary line of tradition-based mediums and other essential painting tools.
Similar in consistency to a thick stand oil, Williamsburg Alkyd Resin is a slow-drying medium made from pure alkyd resin that dries to a glossy, flexible, enamel-like film. Add it directly into oil paints to modify their transparency and flow. It is also a useful ingredient for making other mediums.
Cold Pressed Linseed Oil
Extracted without heat or chemicals, this genuine cold pressed linseed oil increases the flow, transparency, and gloss of oil paints. It can also be used when grinding your own pigments by hand or as an ingredient in other mediums.
Williamsburg Damar Crystals are highest-quality, 100% natural damar crystals from Indonesia.
This semi-transparent extender is composed of marble dust and barium sulfate in linseed oil. Use it to extend oil colors without altering their consistency. It also moderately speeds drying time. Note: it will increase the tendency of oil colors to yellow.
This is a genuine alkali-refined linseed oil. It increases the flow, transparency, and gloss of oil paints and is also useful as an ingredient when making your own painting mediums.
Pure Beeswax Blocks
Made from 100% natural, bleached beeswax, Williamsburg Pure Beeswax Blocks are great for altering the sheen of mediums and varnishes, or as an additive when making oil paint.
Pure Beeswax Pellets
Made from 100% natural, bleached beeswax, Williamsburg Pure Beeswax Pellets are great for altering the sheen of mediums and varnishes, or as an additive when making oil paint.
This thick, honey-like linseed oil offers excellent leveling properties while increasing flow, transparency, and gloss. Slower drying and less yellowing than other linseed oils, it creates a smooth, durable, flexible film. It is also useful as an ingredient when making your own painting mediums.
Titanium Oil Ground
Containing no zinc or alkyd, Williamsburg Titanium Oil Ground is made with titanium dioxide and marble dust ground in 100% alkali-refined linseed oil. It offers just the right amount of tooth and absorbency.
Made from damar resin, refined linseed oil, and pure, 100% beeswax (no paraffin or microcrystallines), Williamsburg Wax Medium can be used in moderation to thicken paint and impart a short, buttery texture. It increases transparency and dries to a satin sheen.

Another excellent Williamsburg product
from Oxford, MS
I have used Williamsburg Titanium Ground for about ten years. I apply three coats with a large putty knife on a plywood panel - sanding in between. The product is expensive, and the process is time consuming (drying time between applications). The BEAUTIFUL surfaces are worth the effort. Williamsburg makes excellent products.

The Best Oil Medium
from San Jose, CA
I would not use anything else. This is the bet medium. I swear by it. I talked to this woman at Williamsburgh who told me how she makes it and the way it is made works so perfectly. Oil, my mentor says, is to use for pushing your pigment around, but this medium does nice things for your painting period.

Impasto medium not just for impasto work
I don't do a lot of impasto work but when I need something to hold my brush strokes and or create peaks with it's sometime hard to find a good medium to do that with. Willliamsburg (WB) impasto medium is terrific for just that purpose but also more than that. Mix it with opaque or transparent colors and it won't change the overall color so much but the characteristics of the oil paint changes completely. From smooth oily paint to thicker less oily more sticky (but not overly sticky) type of paint...capable of holding peaks and brush strokes. This impasto medium is made from chalk (so it's ever-so slightly gritty under a palette knife yet not so on your brush), barium sulfate (colorless filler), and linseed oil. Since it's (WB) I'm gonna assume it's their alkaline-refined linseed oil we're all familiar with. It's been ground down pretty smooth. Smells like linseed oil but not in a harsh way. Appears to be semi-transparent in thin layers by itself and it looks whitish gray in thicker layers. In a 1:1 ratio oil paint to impasto medium it slightly increases the oil paints opacity and lightens the color very slightly. I like it! Because it's made with linseed oil it will probably take a few days to dry but that has yet to be tested. Since it's oil-based it can be mixed with anything else oil-based or alkyd-based including other mediums possibly. It does a great job extending expensive concentrated oil paints in a 3:1 mix (3 parts oil paint 1 part impasto medium. Pretty good stuff. Well done Williamsburg.
