Love these grid rulers!
By Robert Sloan
from Russellville, Arkansas
I do calligraphy, illumination and design. I used to do realistic portraits from photos. For so many media I needed accurate measurement and a good straight edge. The grid makes it easy to mark up a photo reference with Tick Marks at key points like corners of the mouth, corners of eyes, tip of nose, bottom of chin and top of head, that I have a much easier time charting that out to get the proportions of my subject accurately. Whether it's a human or a long haired cat, a grid ruler substantially aids in proportion. For calligraphy, design and illumination the grid helps me lay out borders, work out the number of motifs in a knotwork pattern and scale the knots to the design. I had one grid ruler that I dragged around for over 20 years and literally wore out till it was nearly opaque. I had a hard time finding these until I found them on Blick. Now I'm getting a dozen more so that I have one in every field box, art bag and stash that I regularly use. There are too many reasons to measure things in life for proportion not to keep a C-Thru grid ruler handy. Oh and you can hold the thing up and look through it during landscape drawing to see the proportions of a tree or a rock and eyeball it while sketching. Even when not doing meticulous accuracy, just using it as a sighting aid is very handy.

Too handy almost

I use these to lay out leather items. That you can lay it down and use to make parallel lines for patterns is indispensable.
18" See through ruler
from Neenah, WI
Art instructor recommended that we get a see through ruler and that an 18" one would be perfect when working on portraits.
from Tucson, AZ
I use these small rulers in making cards. The see through grid makes it easy to perfectly space and align layers. A must have for my craft table!
Not a good choice
from Dixon, Illinois
I prefer the metal centering ruler but they were out of stock at the time...these plastic rulers have no "body-strength, hard to read and are something I would not use nor buy again.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

A good quality ruler
from Boston, MA
I use this everyday! very helpful in design class.
Best price on the web
from Newtown, CT
These little rulers (6-inch length) are selling for a lot more elsewhere on the web, so I was pleased to find this excellent price from a retailer I trust. Shipping was quick. The rulers are fine, but not as good as the original C-Thru brand that was made in the USA. These China-made rulers have thicker, less clear, markings.
A must have!

A trully must have for every designer!!!!!
Good option for students
from Los Angeles, CA
These are a little pricey, but worth it in the long run. I have experimented with many different types of rulers for my high school art students. I have recently been purchasing these and have been fairly happy so far. The wooden ones get dinged up on the edges and the "un-breakable" ones declare a challenge to be met by students. These ones have done pretty well so far.
