Welcome to dickblick
Cartooning is a great art form for young artists because of its expressive, sometimes silly, and often exaggerated nature. Now children as young as 6 can learn to be ace cartoonists, thanks to Walter Foster's Cartooning for Kids series. These books are designed to help kids develop their cartooning skills through a series of engaging, easy-to-follow, step-by-step projects. They begin by blocking out simple shapes, such as a circle or oval, and then build up to finished, full-color artworks.

Crazy, Zany Cartoon Characters
Covering a wide variety of characters including quirky people, whimsical animals, fantasy creatures, robots, and space aliens, Crazy, Zany Cartoon Characters provides the fundamentals for drawing in true cartooning style. Children learn basic elements such as how to exaggerate features, draw silly expressions, and create over-the-top gestures. They then move on to develop and draw their own original cartoons.
Fairy Tale Fun
The projects in this book cover widely recognized fairy tale figures and characters from classic stories, fables, and legends, including princesses, fairies, knights, dragons, giants, and more.
Furry & Feathered Friends
With the help of this book, kids learn how to draw all kinds of quirky cartoon animals, including dogs, cats, birds, hamsters, rabbits, and more. They also learn how to create their own quirky, imaginative pets.
Children will love pairing up (aka mashing) unlikely subjects to create fun, silly characters. Projects include a fish boy, an alien professor, an elephant ballerina, and a robot kitty.
Mean 'n' Messy Monsters
Kids learn how to render favorite popular monsters (Godzilla, King Kong, Frankenstein, mummies, zombies, and more) in cartoon style, then move on to design their own menacing characters — all with a colorful, silly touch. Featured sections cover characteristics, expressions, gestures, and costumes.
This book teaches young cartoonists to draw a range of silly, sporty characters in true cartoon style. Motifs are drawn from football, soccer, baseball, hockey, and other popular sports.

Great way to get kids excited about learning to draw...

Comments about Walter Foster Cartooning for Kids Series:
My kids love Walter Foster's "Crazy, Zany Cartoon Characters" book. And so do I. Teaching kids to draw is not always easy, but the charming, zany cartoon characters found in this book made it fun. To "collect" a character, my kids have to learn to draw it. And they do.Now my kids are enthused about drawing (try that with a bowl of fruit). In fact, they come from school (1st and 2nd grade) and ask if they can draw. Yeah, we sure can. After they've drawn a character, we sometimes color them using watercolors.Like the other Foster drawing tutorials, this step-by-step book shows you how to build a cartoon character by combining simple geometric shapes. This cartoon character book is relatively easy, though Foster's "I Can Draw" series is even easier ("Animals Around the World" is a great first drawing book). I like this book; it's fun and my kids are learning to draw. Two thumbs up.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
