Welcome to dickblick
This pigmented, oil-based modeling compound is a favorite of sculptors, model makers, clay animators, and artists of all ages.
The clay has a smooth consistency and brilliant color range. Mix colors with ivory and white to obtain tints, with black to achieve shades, and with each other to achieve intermediate hues.
Model with the hands or with clay tools for fine detail. Van Aken clay never hardens. It remains pliable and plastic, and it can be used over and over. In fact, its consistency improves with age.
Color Chart Note — Use this color chart as an approximation of the real color. If exact color matching is necessary, use actual samples of the materials.

Great for printing fish
By Dr. Fish
I use this to support the fins of fish when I do Japanese fish printing (gyotaku). This modeling clay is flexible and strong. I lasts almost indefinitely. Does not stain my prints. I prefer white.Plastalina is a bit heavy to transport or mail.
Best prices, great service!

I use this clay in my classroom to help students demonstrate the ideas they are learning. I usually buy it from another supplier but Blick had it a lot cheaper so I tried them. I was very happy with the prices and speed of their service. I will definitely go with them again!
land and water clay
I bought these in bulk and the price was amazing. The clay also has a nice feel to it. The only downfall I can think of is that the green stain is rather hard to take off!

Extremely affordable and versatile
By Jonathan D. Lopez

In 2008, I came across Van Aken Plastalina when beginning to animate. While the clay is naturally a bit too soft to animate with using armatures, I made due and have made about ten different claymations over the years.I've since then moved on to solely sculpting rather than animation. Making the clay harder is helpful to put detail into sculptures. In the fall, you can find Gulf Wax on sale for like 1.50 a pound. Melt 1/8 to 1/4 of a pound of wax per pound of Van Aken in a double boiler – This will give you a fairly solid plasticine that is easy to work with when warmed up. Grab a shoebox and line it with aluminium foil. Carefully pour it in to cool off. You can stick the pot back into the water to warm up the residual clay to get it off.Just make sure to knead the clay while it is still warm because the oil likes to rise to the surface, leaving the clay on the bottom of the aluminium foil Oh, and the colors online are horribly inaccurate in comparison to the actual clay. Here's some shots of the actual colors:

We wanted to use this clay for stop motion animation characters and the clay did not lend it self well to molding. The clay separated and you could not bend it easily to show movement in characters.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

I use this product to sculpt realistic injuries for training first responders. I love that it doesn't dry out and is easy to sculpt.
