Welcome to dickblick
This pigmented, oil-based modeling compound is a favorite of sculptors, model makers, clay animators, and artists of all ages.
The clay has a smooth consistency and brilliant color range. Mix colors with ivory and white to obtain tints, with black to achieve shades, and with each other to achieve intermediate hues.
Model with the hands or with clay tools for fine detail. Van Aken clay never hardens. It remains pliable and plastic, and it can be used over and over. In fact, its consistency improves with age.
Color Chart Note — Use this color chart as an approximation of the real color. If exact color matching is necessary, use actual samples of the materials.

By Pam F.
from Bedford, Va
My boys do stop motion video and love this clay. Other clay that we have used was too stiff, smelled terrible, or dried out--this is none of those. It really is the best we have tried.

My go to sculpting material
By Clay Alchemist
from Grand Rapids, MI
I've been using Van Aken Plasticine since 2008. Amazingly enough, I still have some of my original plasticine. Although they years have changed the properties slightly, I have found the evaporation of the oil to be beneficial in the end, making some of the softer clay more useful than newer stockThe Good:- When buying by the 4 1/2lbs blocks, it's an incredibly good deal.- The colors mix well and the pigmentation is alway solid. - Can be melted in a double boiler to bulk mix colors or "refresh" the clay (minimizing color contamination and minimizing the presence of dust in it)- Not crumbly or too sticky when handled in below 80º environments- Really does last a LONG TIMEThe Bad:- Every once in a while, I come across a pack of ivory that is really dark or lighter than average. It seems like the oil content is a little off in ivory occasionally. - Yellow, green, and red are all a little soft for my preference, but I melt them down to harden them up a bit.Overall, this plasticine is the only reason why I am able to afford to sculpt as much as I do. I really love Van Aken plasticine (though the Claytoon stuff is ridiculously soft), and the issues I have with it pale in comparison to the advantages of using it over other clays and plasticines.
