This pigmented, oil-based modeling compound is a favorite of sculptors, model makers, clay animators, and artists of all ages.

The clay has a smooth consistency and brilliant color range. Mix colors with ivory and white to obtain tints, with black to achieve shades, and with each other to achieve intermediate hues.

Model with the hands or with clay tools for fine detail. Van Aken clay never hardens. It remains pliable and plastic, and it can be used over and over. In fact, its consistency improves with age.

Note — Use this color chart as an approximation of the real color. If exact color matching is necessary, use actual samples of the materials.

Van Aken clay is my personal favorite for claymations, as it has rich colors and is very flexible. If you want to make it more stiff, simply stick it in the fridge for about 30 minutes. Too firm, stick it in front of a heating vent or sunbeam for 10 minutes. My only complaint is that the dye gets into your hands, and if you aren't careful, can be spread to other colors. Easy fix is to have a washcloth nearby for whenever you switch colors.

Absolute outstanding product. I use this clay for sculpting Busts, Models, Creatures and Masks. It's a perfect base for animators and sculptors. It's a non-hardening clay so you can return to your project at anytime. Highly recommended.

This is one of the best clays to animate with. Its hard enough to carve very fine detail into, and is sturdy enough to grip and adjust without crushing, but is also pliable enough to shape effectively with your hands. Overall, a great product for animation, or just to mess around with.

I use this product for sculpting 1/3 size human forms for eventual casting. I love the consistency-- hard enough to create tiny detail but soft enough to be easy on the hands. Responds very well to slight changes in temperature- if you want to change the consistency, pop it in the fridge for 3 minutes or set it in a sunbeam for a few moments. Great stuff. Also- doesn't burn my eyes they way many similar products do.
