Use polymer mediums for extending any viscosity of acrylic paint. Polymer mediums are translucent when wet, and they dry to a clear, flexible film which has excellent resistance to water and ultraviolet radiation.
Gloss and Semi-Gloss Polymers
Their low viscosities make them ideal as glazing mediums and top coats. They are extremely adhesive and can be used in collage and craft applications such as découpage. Add them to resoluble water based paints such as watercolours and gouache to increase water resistance and flexibility.
Tri-Art's Matte Polymer boasts the same handling and performance characteristics as the Gloss and Semi-Gloss polymers, but it dries to a matte finish. Use it to decrease the gloss of acrylic colors and gloss mediums, and as a matte glazing medium. When a transparent ground is needed, it can be used in the place of gesso, and its tooth will increase adhesion.

Tri-Art's polymer semi-gloss ROCKS
By Hey Val

Comments about Tri-Art Finest Acrylic Polymers:
I use Tri-Art's polymer semi-gloss "varnish" in many ways. I prefer it for acrylic transparent glazes because it dries fast. It makes a great "glue" for paper collage. And as a final top coat varnish - it is the best ever. Not too matte, not to glossy, more like a softer eggshell glow. AND no worries EVER about over-brushing risking cloudiness like some other brands. This product NEVER clouds over! We even used it in class to adjust a student's older very glossy acrylic painting to make the pitch-black night sky much softer. Student was sure he had ruined his work with a glossy finish. We tested a corner first, then applied the Tri-Art Semi-Gloss polymer with soft brushstrokes. Lovely and saved the day!!
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Tri-Art mediums have been formulated to provide artists with an endless range of textures, effects, and finishes. Tri-Art Polymer Mediums have a similar consistency to Tri-Art Liquid Acrylic paint - the ideal medium for extending color and creating rich glazes. Tri-Art Modeling paste provides a high relief textured ground that can even be sanded or carved! Tri-Art Gessos are smooth, flexible, sand-able and absorbent. Tri-Art Sludge Gesso is the most economical and ecological gesso while providing an opaque and flexible ground. Tri-Art Top Coat Hard is designed as a non-removable final coat for rigid supports. It dries glass clear to a tough, scratch resistant, glossy finish.
