Brilliant colors that can quickly be laid down on any paper. Because there is a grittiness to them, you have more options as to paper. I sometimes use these to fix shapes, in medium tones on watercolor paper, then go back and finish with softer pastels. Great quality, beautiful colors.

Unique and complex colors, great coverage and interesting shape resulting in a different kind of stroke. Blendabilty is not bad but given it's texture and the tendency to "hold it's own" terrages are more suited for layering then pushing them around. Texture is a little gritty so if you like soft pastels that would not be it. However, for artists who like to work aggressively and lay down a strong, defining mark that would work perfectly!
