These tools are for applying wax in fine lines. Hot wax is poured into the needle. It then flows through the needle spout. You can tip the tool forward to start the wax flow, and tip it back to stop it. Tjanting Tools come in 3 different sizes.

Hard-to-find art tools... FOUND!
from Camden, Maine
Comments about Tjanting Tools (Needles):
I recently resumed creating fabric art using my favorite medium, Batik. I knew the names of the most highly recommended Batiking tools and dyes, and was having difficulty finding vendors who still carried them. A long-time friend, BLICK came through with an outstanding selection of dyes, and tools in 3 sizes, a true find. Thank you!
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Waste of money!

Some of these metal tips had already separated from the wooden handle before I even opened them. Cheap product.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

It took some getting used to, as filling the hole with wax and then applying it was tricky for me without making a mess. I got the hang of it soon enough and appreciate the value of these tools.
The person I gave them to loves them. Uses them for art projects.

I ordered these products to be used in several classes in teach wstercolor batik. They worked out extremely well. This was my first experience using your liquid watercolor which was perfect for this application. The finished pieces were beautiful. Thank you also for your prompt delivery!

Good for beginners

Using this tjanting for batik. The metal is not as sturdy as other copper or brass tjantings, but this is a good tool for the price. Would recommend for people who are beginning batik.

The feel of Quality
By Handy Hans

Until you can commit to a temperature controlled electric tool this will do the trick. It has good heat retention. Using a bit of beeswax in the parafin mixture lowers the melting temperature and makes the tool even more effective. Because it is a quality tool it has a bit of a learning curve and creative discoveries are made in the process. I recomend this tool with the use of a small electric frypan to heat the wax to the temperature needed.
