Have two in studio, for over 30 years. Schools I teach at have these same easels. They get beat around by students and still work. The extension comes in handy, since I often work very large. I have even taken it out Plein Air, especially on windy days.

VERY long lived investment. I have mine from when the company was called Stanrite. Still use it to paint on. It's lightweight, sturdy, and holds a canvas securely. You can not go wrong with this as a studio or field easel.

I haven't compared a lot of different easels - just wanted to say this one works.

They use these at Gage Academy; they seem to last pretty well.
The extension seems overpriced to me but I bought it anyway.

As a pastel painting professional and teacher, these are the perfect easels in the studio - they collapse easily for storage or travel, set up perfectly vertical for pastel work,and are light-weight. I love the lower shelf for keeping the colors' pallet used, and the extentions are great for working on larger pieces. The first one I purchased was over 20 years ago, and is still in service.

I live in a small apartment in NYC, NY, and this easel allows me to do canvasses 40x30 and larger, in my living room. It folds up to a small size and stores in my closet. It is very sturdy with little movement when painting. One of the best things about this easel is that it has compatible goose neck lamps that slide into the groove on the main post of the easel. See the Testrite Studio Easel Light. I bought two of them. NOW I have great overhead adjustable lighting to paint with. The easel lights are a bit pricey, but now I don't have to mess around with the lamps in my home to get the light I need to paint with. Love this easel and the compatible lights. GREAT!

I mostly use this lightweight portable easel for figure drawing. I demand sturdynss out of an easel and and this one delivers and takes the constant pounding from doing quick model sketches. I draw at a studio that has this same easel and I used it over and over and love it so much I bought one for myself. GREAT EASEL.

I've used this easel regularly for 10 years, and it is very dear to me. Lightweight, easy to adjust while I'm working, easy to fold up and transport, doesn't take up too much space, not too hard to clean. I paint in oil on small and medium size canvas, and I've also done two 2x3-foot paintings on this easel with no problem. I've thought about upgrading to a nicer easel, but I just don't need it since I have this.
