I bought this lamp a couple of months ago, and the first thing I noticed was that it ran though a hell lot of bulbs, and on a much faster rate than any lamp I have ever had.
It eventually started to smell funny and smoke at the lamp socket. The light flickered, the bulb went out. Thinking it may have been the bulb I exchanged it, but within ten minutes it flickered again, and the new bulb went out. Again smoke and the distinct smell of smoldered electronics.

Taking apart the top quickly showed the poor soldering job, which caused the cables at the lamp socket to partly freeze to the socket. Also, the socket itself became unusually hot while the lamp was switched on for a mere 10 minutes, while the bulb was still considerably cool.

The quality of this lamp definitely is in the lower tier, I will not be buying it again.

Attached mine to the Futura drafting table purchased from same order. Stretches enough for use, sturdy at time of installation, cheap construction but perfect for its price.

I use this lamp with its floor stand in my work room. (Painting, Mosaic and Stained Glass). I can roll the lamp round my huge table, turn it, moove it, direct the light wherever I need it. It is the most practical duo (swingarm lamp and food stand) for any studio. I would buy it again.

I bought this item to replace the clamps that came with my lamps because they have started to crack and break. I like these clamps because you can secure the lamp into the clamp which makes it more stable. I felt this was definitely a good price and the shipping was reasonable also.

I bought a pair of these lamps to fill a need for copious lighting while carving waxes for jewelry casting, and I'm pleased with the sturdy construction and good, tight joints that enable the lamp to stay where it's put. Some folks complain about these lamps getting too hot, but with the newer, "warmer" fluorescent bulbs, I've not had this problem. It's a very good value, especially compared to models that are basically the same but cost four times as much because the word "architect" appears in the description!

My only minor quibble is with the way the lamp arm fits into the clamp base; there's a seam in the rolled metal post that scrapes away at the plastic when you turn it a certain way. However, if you keep the wingnut there pretty loose, it's not too much of a concern.

Bought two of these for each side of our bed. Nice quality, easy adjustability, sharp looks. While this lamp has the same (or similar) stress-vulnerable plastic clamp as others of its breed, it's no worse than many and better than some. Many of these lamps outlast their clamps. The key for successful, long-term installation of any of them, especially in other than standard configuration (e.g. at the top of a tilted work surface, with weight of lamp pitched downward on the clamp) is C-clamps, available at any hardware store. If you find a way to distribute the downward forces evenly along the contact surface of the clamp, this lamp should last a long time.
