Designed to meet the intense demands of the artist's creative process, Visual Journals feature heavy-duty covers with spiral wire binding that is thicker and stronger than traditional bindings. The journals lie completely flat for ease of use.

Bristol (Smooth) — The smooth surface on this paper is excellent for traditional and specialty pen and ink techniques, marker, and collage. Each journal contains 28 sheets 100 lb (260 gsm), acid-free paper.

Bristol (Vellum) — The vellum finish on this paper is great for any dry media, including pencil, charcoal, and pastel. It also works well with pen and ink, marker, and collage techniques. Each journal contains 24 sheets of 100 lb (260 gsm), acid-free paper.

Drawing — This heavyweight drawing paper is excellent for pencil, colored pencil, and charcoal. It can also be used with pastels, markers, pen and ink, and for light mixed media and collage techniques. Each journal contains 42 sheets of 100 lb (163 gsm), acid-free drawing paper.

Mixed Media — This medium-weight paper is great for wet and dry media, including watercolor, acrylic, pen and ink, pencil, crayon, charcoal, marker, and collage. Each journal contains 34 sheets of 90 lb (190 gsm), acid-free paper.

One major flaw

This is great paper, I love the pad and the thick stiff cover that protects the pad. The problem is that the 9x12 pad isn't a full 9x12 perforated so you can remove it cleanly. I cant believe Strathmore overlooked such a simple obvious detail like this. I wont buy anymore unless they change this

The paper is way too soft. It doesn't take any amount of scrubbing and lint starts coming off unlike other brands like Arches and Fabriano which do take a lot of scrubbing.

The 140 lb watercolor paper journal is quite nice. The paper is sturdy and thick and doesn't buckle too much. However, I found that if you try to lift the paint, the paper balls up a little no matter how gentle you are. That doesn't happen to me with other brands like Fabriano and Arches.

This drawing tablet is a great weight, and has a nice surface to it (medium tooth). The cover and back is a sturdy material. It will come in handy when I need a hard surface to draw on. The paper took pencil and charcoal fairly well, however when I used a Copic marker, it bled through a bit. You will have to be careful when using Copic markers on this paper. Other multiliner markers haven't bled through, so it still does a good job with markers. If you earase lines a lot, the paper doesn't wear down either.In all, it's a must have if you like to use a variety of mediums while working.

I purchased these art journals for my altered arts group to use as technique journals. They are just perfect fot this use because they allow for a variety of media to be used, stand up to hard use and to wet techniques as well as dry. They provide a good reference for later projects using the techniques practiced in the journals. I would like a larger binding ring to allow for dimension, but the one it has is pretty good. The good thing is that the pages open flat and that makes working so much easier!

The Journal is used for a class series hosted by Strathmore. I've never played with art journaling before, so this was a first. I love the fact that it is so portable and easy to use! I couldn't find this item in any of my local craft shops so finding here was awesome, and having it shipped from here was faster then waiting for my local shops to have it ordered. :)

I love this product because I am using this journal hard. It gets thrown in my bag with lots of materials and I know it can withstand the use. The other quality I like is the ease with which the pages turn due to the large loops on the binding. This journal seves as a place for art, a compilation of notes and reminders, and a place to put relevant research on what I am creating. I can see filling this one quickly and moving on to another.

I've been looking for a good journal and tried these based on the Dick Blick reviews, and I've been very happy with them. The paper's a very nice weight and surface. The cover's extremely sturdy. They're by far the best journals I've ever used.

This makes a great logbook for letterboxers. The size is just right(3.5 in x 5 in), it's unlined, and it holds the ink for rubber stamping. Also makes a great sketchbook ..... and comes in handy for just about anything when you want something compact.
