I use the watercolor books for art journaling. The paper is very thick and accepts gesso well. Excellent covers too!

I am an art therapist and purchase the small journals for my cancer patients. Each person who attends the art & healing group is given a journal which they decorate and can take home between classes. The quality of the paper holds up well for watercolor, acrylic, gesso and I introduce them to different art techniques and encourage them to collect quotes and collage items. Cancer patients feel their life is out of control at the dictates of medical issues, and this is a place where they have total control and forget their troubles while creating.

My students love the quality of these sketchbooks--perfect for all kinds of media!
Perfect for my needs as Expressive Arts professor!
My students are required to keep a weekly art journal in multiple media. This is the right size to avoid intimidation and encourage portability. The pages don't warp or curl up with wet media. They aren't ideal for dry media, but they are usable. We had fun using modeling paste and stencils to personalize the covers!
Perfect quality and size for commuters and students

I bought these journals for my students to practice journaling with different media. I love that they have enough pages to experiment with and can easily carry around the 5.5 x 8 book. I was also wanting a spiral-bound journal to easily flip open and through pages, and this delivered on all fronts.
Mixed Media Art Journal
I bought this to use as a mixed media art journal. The pages and heavy and stand up well to acrylics/inks/etc. I'm very happy with the quality of the pages and how they lay flat when opened.
My Students and I LOVE these Visual Journals!

My students can hardly wait, as traditionally twice a year, I give my students the opportunity to purchase a higher quality sketchbook, the Strathmore Visual Journals. My high school art students that enjoy journaling and/or sketching are usually those who purchase. Once they order comes in, my students have their sketchbooks all day, everyday. The size is perfect, because the books fit nicely in their book bags and handbags. The students are thrilled with the quality of the paper. I order the 90 lb. and 140 lb. watercolor paper. It is perfect for painting, drawing, and writing in as the texture adds character to the works and is durable enough to paint on. The spiral binding is fantastic for allowing students to separate one individual page to paint on without disturbing other pages in the book.
