I'm really very happy with this sketchbook. The paper is really smooth, and when I use my copics it hardly bleeds through at all. My only complaint is that the spine doesn't lay quite flat when open, which bothers me slightly, but it's a minor inconvenience. I would definitely buy this again!

This is my second one of these Artist Journals; I filled up the first one. I appreciate the soft cover and how well the journal opens and stays flat. The paper is good quality; I often use gel pens in the journal and they write well on the pages, plus regular ink pens and pencils do well. The journal is about 1/2" thick and is lightweight so it's not bulky to carry around. The size is large enough for what I need, but also not too large. There are other journals out there similar to this, but most cost a lot more than this one.

This is a sketch paper, if you wanted thicker more opaque paper you should have bought the drawing artists journal. I believe this is the same paper as all 400 series sketch paper, maybe someone else can confirm this. Compared to other sewn binding sketchbooks, like rhodia or moleskine, these strathmore artists journals knock it out of the park. They are a fraction of the price and much higher quality than their competitors. For an artist they are a dream come true. The best drawing paper on the market today bound with a strong reliable sewn binding, with all the quality of a custom made sketch book, at one of the lowest prices of any comparable artists journals. Adding to that the range of sizes and paper types, including a 500 series hardbound sketchbook, this is the paper used by more professional illustrators than any other, There is nothing else being produced that can even compare. This is a rare instance of a company getting it exactly right. Don't waste your time and money on sketchbooks that only work with certain media, have pretentious branding, and cheap or inconsistent paper. These books offer a support specifically made for any type of work you can do. Strathmore is an artistic institution, committed to American manufacturing and environmental sustainability, hopefully these sketchbooks will become the mainstay of every illustrator and they can continue to make the materials that are the foundation of so many great pieces of art.

I've only had this product a very short while and tested a page or two. I'd been impressed by the Strathmore Softcover 500 Series Mixed Media Art Journal and decided to try this paper. Not being a real paper geek, I can at lease share this: The paper texture seems nice, but you can see almost any media through it. Look at the page you are on, and you'll see whatever you've done on the other side, including light graphite. A pale-colored pastel pencil gives the only incognito mark. I expected better for a 400 series paper.
