My favorite hardbound journal
from Madison, Wi
I recently bought the 11 x 14 inch hardbound journal and it is a joy to use! Pages stay perfectly flat when working on it. I like to do big 2 page spreads so this is important. The 500 series paper for Mixed Media is the BEST 90lb paper I have ever used for watermedia. I use mostly watercolor and gouache along with fountain and brush pens with various inks. The only bleed through I have ever had was with solvent based markers. I have used most of the other brands that claim their paper is for watermedia and none of them stand up to water the way this paper does; they all pill and warp alot but this paper stays reasonably flat. I esp love the way they designed the hardbound journals so that both sides of a two page spread have the same paper surface (one side of this paper is smoother than the other). Blick's price is reasonable for such a high quality journal.

Love Love Love these Jounals!
from Tampa FL
I do mixed media and work with watercolors as well and I love the way the paper holds up even to lots of water. Very little undulation and no pilling... I prefer the hardbound journal to the soft but they are both excellent.

Takes inks and watercolors extremely well. No bleed through.
from New England
This is the paper recommended for an online course I am taking for doing permanent pen lettering in combination with water color and water soluble markers. These items don't bleed through and we can use both sides. Fabulous.I haven't used other brands so I can't compare.

A Fine-Art Journal
By Via Von
from Chicago, IL
I've been art journaling for several years now but a recent art lettering course requested we purchase this journal for the years assignments.I'm thrilled with the strong, sewn binding and it's ability to open as widely as needed for each page's full access, front and back. As well,we are tossing a variety of painting mediums (including watercolour) and it's retaining its sturdy paper with no bleed-thru. We are not, however, using alcohol markers (like Spectrum Noir or Copics) as those would bleed through. For me, this journal has taken me from the mind set of "just an art journal" to a "fine art journal" - love it!
The best journal for mixed media !
great for dry or wet applications - very nice
I would buy this product again.
from Sandy, UT
I used various media on the pages - gesso, very wet acrylic paint, Gelatos, and modeling paste and the pages did not buckle or bleed through. Excellent product!
Perfect Art Journal
from Wenatchee, WA.
I have been using this for my art journals. It holds paint, mixed media, watercolor, and marker. It lays open very nicely, and the cover has a nice stable feel to it.

Does NOT Lie Flat as Described!!!!
By Journal Artist
I just opened my package and have not used it yet. But the MAIN feature I was looking for was OPENING FLAT!! It does not! The binding is very stiff. It does appear to be sewn. The paper seems to be good quality- 90 lb paper. Very thick. Compared to my 140 lb cold pressed fabriano paper i buy, it is smoother, has minimal texture but can see some more than feel. It is not totally slick. It does not state hot or cold pressed just 90 lb mixed media paper. The pages will have to be clipped to be held open :( I thought it would be better paper and price than the same size Sketch Moleskine Maybe one day Moleskine will listen and change their watercolor journals to portrait binding. The paper is thicker, but not sure that all told it will be a better journal. It is the typical very stiff to open journal! NONE of the pages are visible unless you hold it open!!! The journal immediately closes when you let go! So it depends what you are looking for. I bought with an additional 25% discount so price was pretty good. Ahh, I finely found another description on inside which states Vellum finish, also included in description. I am pretty sure the paper will be great, but getting to it may be another issue.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend
