Strathmore's Hardbound Art Journals offer artists more choices in a hardbound format, such as 400 Series watercolor paper, Smyth-sewn binding that allows the books to lay flat when open, and a lightly textured, matte, chocolate brown cover.
Available in three sizes, these journals hold multiple sheets of 140 lb (300 gsm), acid-free 400 Series cold press watercolor paper, ideal for fine and even watercolor washes, as well as for lifting and scraping. The paper can also be used for gouache and acrylics.

Great for Watercolors/Ink Wash
from LA, CA
I bought this for ink wash paintings. For those that don't know, there is alot of water involved with this type of art. This paper is so good I can use the front and back of each page. The water doesn't seep through to the next page. The book is a bit small, but it's great quality.
Great for gouache
from Madison, Wi
This is the first time I have used this paper and I found it near perfect for gouache or watercolor. It lays nice and flat so I can do a 2 page spread. I like it much better than the watercolor paper in Strathmore's Artist Journal. I had assumed this was the same paper but it was recommended on an art blog I read so I decided to give it a try and am so glad I did! It will be my field sketching journal for watercolor and gouache.

I use this journal for plein sketching and water colors. The paper is thick enough that I can watercolor on both sides of pages. I really like to use fountain pens for drawing my sketches and I use Noodlers Ink - Bulletproof Black. The ink doesn't absorb into the paper very well, and I have to leave the sketch overnight or longer because it dries so slowly on this paper. I've decided to use the Faber Castell and the Micron pens instead. I have no problems with these pens. You also have to be very careful with glazing otherwise the paper kind of balls up. But for simple sketching with the right pen and little or no glazing - it's just right. The binding is very good even with opening the journal repeatedly to a flat position. It's made extremely well. I like the hard bound and I carry it wherever I go.

love love love this hardbound art journal, sturdy and well made.
Nice thick paper
Nice thick paper in this sketchbook. Doesn't buckle much at all, and I have the tendency to use a lot of water. I use it with the Pentel water brush. Nice combination for portable painting.

Can't wait to begin my art journal
from Pepeekeo, Hawaii
This book is a perfect portable size. The paper is a great quality for doing a variety of wet and dry applications. I make quick pencil sketches as well as watercolor studies for further projects.
